The EHS Manager is responsible for the coordination, design, implementation, and communication of the safety, health and environmental programs for the Paterson. This position ensures a safe working environment for all employees by protecting them against harm and maintaining safe working conditions. A successful candidate will be expected to create, build, and maintain a robust safety culture.
Essential Job Duties
Ensures the facility meets the requirements of federal OSHA and/or state safety regulations.
Maintains knowledge of all applicable laws and regulations and translates these into practice for the company.
Writes, implements, and maintains all safety programs, policies and documentation; ensures that the appropriate programs/systems are in place to adhere to policies/procedures that remove workplace risks.
Establishes all training schedules. Prepares and conducts HSE meetings/training and tracks training compliance.
Conducts and organizes all incident reviews, root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Works with all employees to encourage broad engagement in all HSE programs.
Organizes and facilitates the Safety Committee for the facility.
Examines potential unsafe working conditions, advising management on safety related concerns.
Conducts safety audits and performs facility inspections to review practices and drive continuous improvement.
Maintains and updates site safety equipment.
Manages the plant environmental programs and ensures compliance with all local and federal regulations.
Assists with the GMP/SQF programs to comply with independent food safety audits.
Monitors condition of employees, equipment, and facility relative to product safety.
Creates a positive work environment.
Acts as a change agent to drive continuous improvement of safety, quality, and productivity.
Required Skills and Abilities
Spanish bilingual
Knowledge of manufacturing best practices
Knowledge of Paterson machinery/operations/SOPs
Knowledge of computer programs, including MS Office and ERP systems
Knowledge of lean practices
Knowledge of safe working practices, federal, and local safety and environmental regulations
Skill in oral and written communication in English; bilingual in Spanish preferred
Skill in problem solving, critical thinking, and decision making
Skill in building and maintaining internal and external relationships
Ability to demonstrate leadership skills and effectively motivate teams
Ability to foster an environment committed to safety
Ability to flexible, self-directed, and motivated to improve processes
Ability to be patient and adaptable to unforeseen changes
Ability to prioritize rapidly while utilizing problem solving skills
Ability to maintain records, review document for accuracy, and organize, document, and track production orders
Ability to communicate effectively with team members and company management
Ability to research and analyze information and make thoughtful recommendations to management
Ability to report to work occasionally for off-shift incidents/investigations on our night and weekend shifts
5 years in a related safety role; previous experience in printing or paper converting preferred
