Position: Nuestra Casa Small Dollar Loan Specialist

Immediate Supervisor: Director of Lending

Mission Focus: Small Dollar Lending

Location: 2390 Central Blvd. Brownsville, TX 78520

Summary of Position

The Nuestra Casa Small Dollar Loan Specialist develops and services consumer loans. Interviews loan applicants to determine eligibility and repayment capacity. The Loan Specialist evaluates loan applications and applicant creditworthiness, monitors loan payments and provides customer service to ensure the borrower’s questions are answered and needs are met, and loan is repaid. Additionally, the Loan Specialist maintains accurate and thorough records, and follows all applicable organizational, state and federal policies and regulations. The Loan Specialist must have excellent customer service skills, great phone etiquette and have above average computer skills. The Loan Specialist should be dependable, detailed oriented, possess good judgement and effectively carry out the essential duties and responsibilities of this position in a manner that consistently demonstrates Communities Unlimited mission and core values in a positive manner. Must be bilingual, with the ability to communicate with residents of the Colonias with the objective of providing home improvement loans to our target market.

Education/Certification Requirements

High school diploma required. This position requires a minimum of an associate degree in accounting, business or related field and at least 1 year of experience underwriting and/or servicing loans. Experience in a leadership position in non-profit or community-based work a plus.

Must be English / Spanish Bi-Lingual.

Must have a valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle for travel to office located in Brownsville, TX.

Must be authorized to work in the USA.

Experience/Skills Requirements

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in credit/lending at a financial institution.
  • Knowledge of fundamentals of credit, lending concepts and practices.
  • Demonstrated analytical, accuracy and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work independently, organize and prioritize work.
  • Process paperwork accurately and efficiently.
  • Effectively communicate in both written and verbal formats.
  • Thorough knowledge of the collections process in compliance with the principles established by the Fair Debt Collections Practice Act and Consumer financial Protection Bureau Regulation.
  • Ability to underwrite loans for home improvement including processing applications; obtaining required documents; preparing and maintaining files; coordinating loan closings.
  • Formulate and communicate new ideas and suggestions, including developing reports and/or new processes that will enhance the operations and effectiveness of Nuestra Casa Loan Program.

The position requires travel throughout the assigned Colonias in S Texas to provide onsite events and assistance to the community. Position may require minimal travel throughout our 7-state footprint.

Summary of Essential Job Duties

  • Provide onsite marketing and technical assistance services to Colonias communities to promote Nuestra Casa Small Dollar Loan Program.
  • Provide onsite presentations and technical assistance services to communities in the AR Delta to promote Our Delta Home Small Dollar Program.
  • Distribute marketing materials, assist one on one clients who are candidates for the loan program, accurately detailing technical assistance activities provided to each project community.
  • Research, assist and communicate with the local community.
  • Establish and maintain complete community project files, including but not limited to a written log of all project related activities, correspondence, reports, and working papers.
  • The employee shall always demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality and security with all information, understanding your obligations regarding client data, borrower data, IT data, computer passwords, email account passwords, phone lock codes, etc.
  • Accurate and timely submission of time and expenses in compliance with CU policy and supervisor direction, understanding this record in a critical part of CU’s compliance with grants and contracts.
  • Comply with corporate branding and communication requirements and support corporate communication processes by submitting client stories, securing releases for use of client quotes/images; media capture (photos, videos, etc.) and collaborating with communications staff to promote events, loan closings, community projects and milestones and client businesses.
  • Attend CU staff meetings.
  • Special projects, and other duties as may be assigned by supervisor or program director.

Tools Used in Job

Proficient use of a computer, internet, smart phone (texting, email, photos, videos, social media, and calls), web-based databases for data-entry, Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required. Use of additional software for project related activities may be required and training will be provided.
