About this opportunity:



Cenovus seeks a Chief Process Engineer for our Downstream North America assets to enhance reliability and profitability. Responsibilities include optimizing projects, identifying cost-effective debottlenecking, evaluating new technology, and developing mitigation plans and standard processes.



What you'll do:


  • Employ strong engineering knowledge to analyze Cenovus' existing processes, systems, technology, and assets. Devise an effective strategy to provide top-tier services to the business.

  • Implement and maintain custody of Downstream design practices and engineering standards for process design based on experience at leading/pacesetter industry players

  • Apply standard methodologies to address Reliability and Process Safety vulnerabilities and Loss Profit Opportunities in assets. Prioritize design issues with higher risks and larger Loss Profit Opportunities, validating the underlying Root Cause Analysis.

  • Directly lead a small team of engineers, and indirectly lead engineers at each refinery, through the design and implementation phases of processing engineering and, in-scope, major projects

  • Lead projects of various sizes throughout development, option selection, and design phases, incorporating all fields and providing operational advice.

  • Apply Continuous Improvement techniques to reliability and processing problem solving to improve our assets to reach top quartile performance

  • Implement Cenovus Technical Competency Program in the US in support of technical competency development and career advancement for junior engineers across the US

  • Train process engineers across the company on engineering standards and principles to develop sustainable processes.


Who you are:

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering or equivalent experience

  • 25+ years of engineering experience working for a leading refining operating company with a majority of experience in process engineering and projects, some operational experience will be desired.

  • Broad and detailed knowledge of design practices and industry standards

  • Willing to travel approximately 50% of the time, both domestically and internationally.


Preferred:

  • Able to integrate the work of this team with the asset teams including operational advisory

  • Provide process engineering guidance to Downstream small, medium, and large capital projects including conceptual and applied design of existing facilities modifications or new technologies.

  • Identify, evaluate, and implement new technologies.

  • Identify processes to improve the safety, integrity, and operational efficiency and reliability of Downstream assets.

  • Provide technical expertise on strategic technical business decisions, including acquisitions or business model changes, by integrating the engineering, regulatory and economic drivers along with operational and project expertise.

  • Provide solving expertise.

  • Provide expertise to incident investigations as well as for plant optimization activities.

  • Lead efficient and effective technical professional networks to drive standardization and best practices sharing and implementation.

  • Become a recognized subject matter expert in downstream process engineering design and troubleshooting

  • Identify, evaluate, prioritize and develop process improvement opportunities (business processes and refining production processes).

  • Lead a process and project engineering Community of Practice group.

  • Foster team environment to effectively deliver value.

  • Increase technical knowledge at our staffing engineering base and process improvement through implementation.

  • Ensure safety and environmental compliance
