Summary

The Federal Reserve Board (Board) provides students opportunities for career success. The Board's Internship program is designed to provide valuable work experience for undergraduate and graduate students considering careers including, but not limited to, economics, finance and accounting, information systems, and data analysis. The Board believes that by combining academic endeavors with project-related work experience, qualified and capable college students can gain the practical knowledge need in a competitive global job market. Internships are paid positions with salaries commensurate with credit hours; internships may be in-person, remote or hybrid, depending on the needs of the team. Employment in the Board's internship program is granted to U.S. citizens. Applicants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited university and returning to continue studies after the internship. Interns receive a syllabus or research project plan outlining their projects and goals for the internship. Interns are assigned a supervisor or mentor to guide them through their internship, and regular check-in meetings with their manager to manage performance expectations and assist with learning goals. Interns have access to a wide range of training programs and events for professional development purposes. Principal Duties and Responsibilities

The Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System's (Board's) Office of Inspector General (OIG) conducts information technology (IT) audits and evaluations of the Board and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB's) programs and operations to assess the effectiveness of Board and CFPB information security programs. The IT Audit Intern will assist in conducting IT-related audits and evaluations of the Board and CFPB programs and operations.


  • Assists as a team member on IT audits, evaluations, inspections, or other reviews.
  • May support the team in conducting its planning activities for the applicable review to establish the appropriate objectives, scope and methodology, which is a key preliminary step in our reviews.
  • Interfaces with other Board division representatives, Reserve Bank officials, or CFPB officials while executing roles and responsibilities.
  • Assists in data gathering and analysis.
  • Assists in preparing workpapers in support of the team's reports. Also will assist the team in developing the findings and message for the applicable review.
  • Participates in presentations to OIG senior management, providing the opportunity to evaluate appropriateness of findings and message(s) resulting from the review.

  • This is a part-time internship starting January 2025.
  • Upperclassmen (juniors/seniors) desired.

Suggested Major(s)/Minor(s): Information technology, computer science, management information systems, or related fields, either graduate or undergraduate.

Required Skills and Knowledge:


  • Strong oral and written communication skills, data analysis skills, as well as intellectual curiosity and professional skepticism.
  • Strong and highly adaptable problem solving skills.

Expected Start Date: January 2025

Expected Hours: Maximum of 25 hours/week during school year

Location : This will be a hybrid internship, requiring a minimum of four in-office days per month, with more as required by business needs.

Citizenship is required for all Board internships and applicants must be current students, graduating from their program spring 2025 or later.
