Ballington Academy is a Public Charter School Educating Students from Transitional Kindergarten to Fifth Grade. We Offer an Innovative Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) Curriculum for all Grades Using a Hands-on Project-Based Learning Approach, Teaching Real-World, 21st Century Skills. Job Opportunity:

The Elementary Charter School Special Education Resource Specialist Teacher, under the direction of the Principal, is responsible for providing instruction consistent with student IEPs to ensure each assigned student can grow emotionally, socially, intellectually, and physically according to the IEP, basic needs, ability, and maturity level. They work in partnership with parents to ensure the highest level of educational achievement for each child. Instruction occurs in an appropriate educational setting and may include the general education classroom.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:


  • Implements practices and procedures of instruction, assessment and program planning for special education students with primary learning disabilities, mild to moderate intellectually disabilities, attention deficit and attention deficit hyperactivity disorders, and serious emotional disturbances.

  • Provides instruction, assessment and program planning for special education students with primary learning disabilities, mild to moderate intellectual disabilities, attention deficit and attention deficit hyperactivity disorders, and serious emotional disturbances.

  • Monitors and evaluates student progress and behavior.

  • Research, obtain and provide instructional materials for special education services.

  • Serve as an informational resource for students, parents, District personnel and community organizations.

  • Maintain records and prepare reports.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Credentials, Abilities and Experience:


  • Valid California teaching credential specifically an Education Specialist Credential.

  • In depth knowledge of project based instruction, differentiated instruction, and convergence thinking.

  • Knowledge of curriculum, California standards, and effective teaching practices.

  • Competency in human relations and oral and written communication.

  • Knowledge and experience with English language development.

  • Knowledge and experience working with special education approaches and strategies.

  • Knowledge with students with special needs and laws, and regulations on special education.

  • Strong communication abilities.

  • Understanding of general special education testing concepts and methods, behavioral analysis, and positive intervention skills.

  • Ability to consult with professionals and ability to diagnose and provide remediation types of learning disabilities.
