Job Description:

Nebraska Game and Parks is looking for a dynamic, passionate and collaborative individual to serve as the Visitor Services Manager for Lake McConaughy State Recreation Area (SRA). This position will provide strategic leadership, in collaboration with and under direct supervision of the Park Superintendent, with the goal of ensuring that all the SRA's internal and external services, processes, procedures and outreach are accessible, welcoming, efficient and inclusive for all visitors. This position will implement the vision for the SRA outlined in the Park's Management Plan with a focus on visitor services to create an identity that elevates Lake McConaughy State Recreation Area as a unique and premier outdoor recreation destination.


JOB DUTIES:
•Management of Visitor Services Program: Provide leadership and direction to all Visitor Services programs including the Park Reservation System, Lake McConaughy Visitor and Water Interpretive Center, Park Volunteer Program, entrance stations, interpretation and education, business administration, special event planning, stakeholder relations, park social media platforms and assist with the management of the Park's Commercial Services Program.
•Management of the Park Reservation System: Lake McConaughy SRA hosts one of the largest overnight camping reservation systems in the country, in partnership with our system vendor. Provide direction and oversight of the Reservation System and act as the key representative of the SRA with the system vendor and State Park Reservation Manager in Lincoln.
•Interpretation, Education and Programming: Plan, administer, supervise, and implement all park programming including the Park Naturalist Program, educational outreach and programs and special event planning for both SRA and partner events.
•Community and Public Relations, Partnerships and Outreach: Communicate the Park's vision to stakeholders and local community organizations including the Lake McConaughy Advisory Committee, government entities and lake area residents and manage the park's social media platforms and websites.
•Business Administration: Plan, supervise and implement fiscal management including revenue generating activities, park resale, budget oversight and procurement under adherence to all state fiscal policies.
•Personnel Management: Recruit, direct, support and appraise Visitor Services staff and volunteers which includes the Park office, Water Interpretive Center, entrance stations, campground hosts, fee collections and naturalists.
•Cultural and Natural Resource Management: Assist in prioritizing the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the park's significant cultural and natural resources in consultation with the Agency specialists.
•Park Operations Management: Assist the Park Operations Manager(s) with the oversight of park's vast physical assets including grounds/landscapes, boating access points, facilities including restrooms, fish cleaning stations and park offices.
•Commercial Services Program Management: Assist the Regional Park Supervisor and Park Superintendent with the oversight of the Commercial Services Program, which includes multiple Concession and Vending Agreements, Commercial Use Authorizations and a permitting system for adjacent land administration.
•Other duties as required.

Requirements / Qualifications:




Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in park/recreation management or a related field; (wildlife, fisheries, natural resources sciences, public administration, history, cultural resource preservation or interpretation, travel and tourism, and planning) AND two years related experience including one year in a supervisory or lead worker capacity. Related coursework/training and/or experience in park/recreation management or related field may substitute for the Bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Driver's license is required.

  • Knowledge and interest in park management, principles and techniques of supervision, Nebraska wildlife, natural resources, and outdoor recreation.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, administrative personnel, and the public.

  • Ability to work a rotating schedule that involves weekends, holidays and occasional after-hours duties.
