Responsibilities

What you'll be challenged to do:

Primary responsibilities will include: Inspection and documentation of work performed by construction contractors to verify conformance or non-conformance with related contract documents, plans and specifications. Responsible for performing technical assignments in field surveying and construction layout, making, and checking engineering computations, inspecting construction work, and conducting field tests in all phases of construction. The position is also responsible for coordinating and managing the lower-level inspectors. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Project Administrator.

General Duties: 


  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (verbally and in writing)

  • Responsible for:

    • Performing highly complex technical assignments in field surveying and construction layout, marking, and checking engineering computations, inspecting construction work, and conducting field tests.

    • Coordinating and managing the lower-level inspectors

    • Performing work under the general supervision of the Project Administrator.

    • Observing work in progress to ensure that procedures are followed, and materials used conform to specifications.

    • Maintaining a daily log of construction and inspection activities and comparing progress reports.

    • Performing material testing and inspection and preparing documentation for acceptance of the Contractor’s materials and quality of workmanship.

    • Performing density testing and entering results into the Materials Acceptance and Certification Systems (MAC).

    • Performing other duties as assigned.



  • Exercise initiative and independent judgment in daily assignments and responsibilities.

  • Review project inspection activities with contractors; escalate issues to supervisor in a timely manner when needed to gain resolution.

  • Inspect, measure, document, and verify work performed by the construction contractor for compliance or non-compliance with contract documents, plans and specifications.

  • Read and interpret contract plans, specifications, shop drawings, permits and other contract documents.

  • Willing and able to work nights and weekends as required.

Qualifications

What you bring to our firm:


  • High school graduate or equivalent.

  • Four (4) years of CEI experience in roadway construction.

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations, and preferably have a working knowledge of Word and Excel.

  • Knowledge of, and interpretation of construction specifications and construction standards.

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain the required CTQP qualifications while employed by TranSystems within one year of hire date or as assigned for specific project requirements.

Must have the following as required by the scope of work for the intended assignment on the project at the time of NTP:


  • CTQP Final Estimates Level I

  • CTQP Concrete Field Technician Level I

  • CTQP Asphalt Roadway Level I

  • CTQP Asphalt Roadway Level II

  • CTQP Earthwork Construction Inspection Level I

  • CTQP Earthwork Construction Inspection Level II

  • CTQP Drilled Shaft Inspection



    • (Required for inspection of all drilled shafts including miscellaneous structures such as sign structures, lighting structures, and traffic signal structures) (Within 6 months of hire)



  • FDOT Intermediate MOT

  • IMSA Traffic Signal Inspector Level I (Within 6 months of hire)

  • Nuclear Radiation Safety

  • Florida Stormwater, Erosion, and Sedimentation Control Training and Certification Program for Inspectors

  • PCC Paving Inspection

  • Diamond Grinding and Grooving

  • Curing, Sawing and Joint Sealing

Physical Requirements:


  • Able to drive to and from various locations.

  • Intermittent standing, bending, sitting, walking, squatting, climbing, kneeling and lifting.

  • Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.

  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 80-90 pounds.
