Position Overview:



The role reports to the Director of JV Support and Oversight and supports the relationship between Motiva, the Joint Venture partners and operating companies. The Joint Venture Advisor supports the delivery of Motiva's EBITDA, NIBT, and distribution targets and governance responsibilities for each venture.



Responsibilities:


  • Align with the partners of each individual JV's strategy, the key performance metrics of the JV, governance, controls, and advising the Motiva board members/member representatives.


  • Assists in the detailed review and analysis of JV financial performance (financial statements), and creation of key management reports.


  • Track and forecast financial covenants to ensure necessary controls.


  • Demonstrate adequate financial and HSS&E controls within the JVs managed and associated annual assurance process to Motiva management.


  • Assists with JV strategic direction including growth aspirations, network planning, bank borrowing and marketing programs, major capital projects, etc. which are ultimately Board-reviewed.


  • Supports internal and external JV audits as applicable.


  • Assists in facilitating partnership meetings including operating, technical and management committee meetings, as appropriate.


  • Assists in the development of asset strategies through integration of company functional requirements.


  • Coordinates the review and evaluation of technical and/or commercial proposals submitted by JV Operators.


  • Positively influences relationships with area facility owners and users.


  • Ensure agreements are compliant and current and ensure compliance with internal and external financial policy and standards.


  • Assists in interpretations on JV agreements for accounting, engineering, operations, and business development.


  • Supports and in negotiations on JV matters and provide guidance and support to other functions/ team members, as appropriate.


  • Supports and participates in negotiations to resolve any JV partner disputes.


  • Assists in asset acquisition and divestment activities as appropriate


  • Works with stakeholders with legal, finance, tax, accounting, treasury, HSS&E, and MIS to get projects prepared for approval, prepare Directors for Board meetings, and guide the operating company in day-to-day operations.


  • Manages conflicting interests and expectations of both internal and external stakeholders.


  • Supports change within Motiva towards industry standards and simplification.


  • Manages conflicts with external counterparts while maintaining good commercial relationships.


  • Aids in the implementation of the strategic JV plan and achieving the desired JV results by influencing the JV partners and operating company (having no direct control).





Experience and Qualifications:




Basic Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree required in Business, Economics, Finance, Science, Engineering, Transport/Logistics or other technical area


  • 5+ years of professional experience in retail gasoline, logistics, supply chain, or transportation


  • A thorough knowledge of commercial agreements, and core knowledge of asset management principles (e.g. Operations, Finance, Projects)


  • Ability to travel (25-30%)


  • Ability to work both independently and across functions


  • Proven analytical skills and demonstrated commercial curiosity


  • Ability to negotiate and influence others


  • Stakeholder management capabilities


  • Oral and written communication skills


  • Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple stakeholders


  • Ability to work in Motiva's Downtown Houston office Monday-Thursday.





Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience working in the oil and gas industry across a range of functions including operations, commercial, business and project management is preferred
