The Iowa Health Care Administrative Fellowship provides select individuals with a post-graduate opportunity to foster development as a health care professional in an academic medical center.This position aims to develop a greater understanding of issues central to UI Hospitals & Clinics and UI Health Care through supporting a broad range of projects of operational and strategic importance, in partnership with clinical and administrative leaders. This position requires systematic, substantial in-depth knowledge of the field of healthcare administration. This knowledge is typically acquired through a graduate program resulting in the issuance of a master's degree in healthcare administration, business administration, public health, or similar discipline.
Job Duties:
The Administrative Fellow will benefit from ongoing interaction with the entire administrative team involving a broad case of operational issues. The content of the experience is tailored to best match individual and organizational needs. As such, the following components and characteristics provide a framework for defining the fellowship experience:
Professional Growth
• Attend and participate in leadership meetings in which direction, policy, and strategic planning issues are addressed
• Have one-on-one meetings and roundings with leaders across the organization to learn about their departments
• Participate in Executive Leadership Academy, a program run by the Office of the Chief Medical Officer to provide promising leaders across the organization with leadership education and mentorship
Data Tracking & Analyses
• Track and analyze performance metrics for quarterly meetings between department leadership and CEO's Office
• Analyze drivers of U.S. News Rankings results
Project Management
• Partner with clinical department leadership on strategic initiatives and other follow-up items aimed at improving metrics across our five organizational pillars
• Run other projects that are of strategic or operational importance to Executive Leadership during the time of Fellowship
People Management
• Run the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding processes for the following administrative fellow, graduate assistants, and summer interns.
• Supported teaching and grading for Master of Healthcare Administration Legal and Capstone courses
Education Requirement:
Master's degree in Hospital Administration, Business Administration, or a similar degree from a CAHME (Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education) or equivalent accredited graduate program prior to the fellowship start date.
