Job Description:

Offset Strategic Services (OSS) is seeking a Data Scientist. The Data Scientist will perform data science and data integration tasks supporting the Department of Defense. Defense Acquisition Data Scientists are expected to support a range of projects including, but not limited to, analysis into defense acquisitions. Candidates are expected to be knowledgeable about defense acquisitions process and familiar with the data science toolkit.

You will provide data science expertise and support to the Army and Department of Defense. Will work with team members with advanced degrees in data science, operations research, statistics, economics, computer science, physics, mathematics, engineering, chemistry, and other technical disciplines.  Salary Commensurate with Experience.

Location: Ft. Belvoir, VA

Responsibilities:


  • Routinely produces analysis on structured and unstructured problems that meets OSS’s quality standards with limited direction and general supervision. Demonstrates ability to develop and apply creative and innovative analytic solutions to complex problems with assistance/support from more senior staff. Shows the ability to synthesize analytic results into a broader context. Can lead complex analytic projects with supervision. Begins to make connections and synthesize ideas across multiple, related studies. Influences decisions by sponsors/ clients; provide sponsors/clients with implementable recommendations.

  • Occasionally supports efforts to enhance OSS’s reputation via publishing and outreach activities.

    Have experience advising senior DoD decision makers on methodologies, results, and conclusions from applied operations research. The primary tools used for research services include, but are not limited to, Logistics Management Program, Vantage, Virtual Contracting Enterprise, General Fund Enterprise Business System (GFEBS), SAP Business Objects/Web Intelligence Reports, Microsoft SharePoint, Army-specific contract writing systems (Procurement Desktop Defense (PD2) and Procurement Automated Data and Document System (PADDS)), and various Government and Commercial business process automation systems.

  • Personnel should have strong data manipulation and problem-solving skills.

  • Must have strong technical skills in areas such as statistics, programming languages like R or Python, SQL (Structured Query Language), data visualization, and data cleaning and preparation.

  • Demonstrates strong and effective communications skills, to include ability to summarize and synthesize larger pieces of work into effective executive summaries/executive briefings. Can effectively present work to more senior and larger audiences. Effectively communicates with & engages colleagues at all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to work on progressively more difficult projects/analyses, including directing portions of large research projects or small to medium projects under general supervision; Ability to operate independently and proactively in the execution of assignments; Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment; Strong critical thinking skills; Knowledge of research techniques; Strong planning and organizational skills; Excellent interpersonal skills; Strong and effective oral and written communication skills; Ability to interact directly and effectively with clients and influence their decisions.

Required Qualifications, Certifications, Skills, and Experience:


  • Active Secret clearance required

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years relevant work experience

  • 2 years' experience supporting the Department of Defense
