What's the role?

The Supervisor, Logistics at Zeiss Chesterfield plays a pivotal role on the Supply Chain Team by directing the team directly responsible for all inventory movements to ensure accuracy, systems integrity, and customer satisfaction. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication abilities. This position collaborates closely with Planning, Purchasing, Production, Customer Service, Finance and Accounting. The Receiving, Kitting, Shipping, and Inventory Control Lead roles report directly to this position.

Here's what you'll do:


  • Build, develop, and manage the Receiving team to ensure the same day all inbound shipments arrive they are accurately:

  • Received

  • Validated (item quantity, PO)

  • Labelled (item and lot bar codes)

  • Put-away (physically and systematically located)

  • Build, develop, and manage the Kitting team to ensure production is fully supported with materials to prevent any slowdown, delay, or stoppage due to lack of materials, includes but not limited to:

  • Printing Work Orders and Pick Lists for all orders outlined in the finite schedule.

  • Picking inventory using FIFO, kitting, and staging the inventory Pick Lists indicate are needed for production.

  • Create and complete manual cycle counts for items with inaccurate inventory levels during picking.

  • Reviewing the inventory levels of all consumables in the production area to ensure adequate inventory is available.

  • Reviewing the inventory levels of all Kanban locations on the production floor for items needed to satisfy production scrap needs.

  • Build, develop, and manage the Shipping team to ensure all sales orders are accurately picked, packed, labelled, and shipped the same day they are committed and communicated by Customer Service.

  • Lead the development of process improvements and direct the documentation and implementation of changes that increase efficiencies, system utilization, inventory accuracy, and use of industry best practices. Includes:

  • The development, publishing, and management of inventory control KPIs

  • Implement the use of new tools or software which will increase efficiencies and accuracies associated with inventory movements (both physical and systematic)

  • Build and manage a robust cross-training system which facilitates the development of team members while increasing work force flexibility and collaboration amongst all material handling functions.

  • Develop and implement a formal cycle count process to monitor the accuracy of our physical and systematic inventory, including:

  • Establishment of A, B, C designations for all inventoried items

  • Guarantees all items are counted at least one to four times each year

  • Implementing a robust process for investigating, documenting, approving, and systematically reconciling inventory discrepancies.

  • Utilizing the cycle count results data to perform root cause analysis as part of a continuous improvement process.

  • Develop and implement an annual physical inventory count process and direct team through the execution of the process to check the accuracy of our physical and systematic inventory, including:

  • Counting all items in all locations.

  • Implementing a robust process for investigating, documenting, approving, and systematically reconciling inventory discrepancies.

  • Acting as primary contact for auditors (internal finance or outside auditors) when reviewing inventory controls and accuracy results.

  • Establish a process for managing all ad hoc inventory discrepancy investigations, including:

  • Root cause analysis

  • Solution development and implementation to prevent future inventory inaccuracies.

  • SOP updates and training of all team members responsible for performing all inventory transactions.

  • Use of control measures to analyze the effectiveness of the implemented solutions.

  • Supports and guides how 5S methodologies can be applied to improve the appearance, efficiency, and accuracy associated with areas that control inventory.

  • Ad hoc tasks as assigned by the department manager or another management team member.

Do you qualify?

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE


  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business management, logistics, or a related field

  • 5+ years of management experience with a logistics, warehouse, or supply chain related team

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams

  • Experience using a major ERP or WMS system (e.g. SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, JD Edwards, MS Dynamics, etc.) as part of core job function.

  • 1-3 years' experience in a regulated industry (e.g., pharmaceuticals, medical devices, food, etc.)

  • Exposure to Lean methodologies; Six Sigma Green Belt preferred.

  • Great attention to detail

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Ability to multi-task on different projects while maintaining high-quality performance.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Ability to work cross-functionally, e.g., with purchasing, planning, engineering, regulatory, marketing, manufacturing, customer service, to solve problems.

  • The desire to be hands-on and involved through the entire process.
