About the Opportunity
This is for an open position with the FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [SC00]
This Consultant position coordinates and implements all Corporate Affairs & Community Involvement initiatives in the assigned New Jersey territory of FirstEnergy. This individual manages the Corporate Contributions and Foundation requests with input from the respective External Affairs team, and regional and senior leadership. Activities related to Harvest for Hunger and United Way Employee giving campaigns in this geographic area are managed by this person.
The position is remote but requires reporting 1-2 days a week at the Holmdel Office in Holmdel, NJ. Travel is required across JCP&L service territory, and some outside of New Jersey.
Responsibilities include:
Serving as the liaison to the NJ external affairs team, regional leadership, NJ EBRGs, Green Team and FirstEnergy business units on corporate contributions, dues, memberships, Foundations requests and community initiatives.
Vetting and processing Foundation grant requests, corporate dues, memberships, and contributions
Creating annual budgets and provide on-going budget support to regional external affairs
Participating in monthly regional external affairs team meetings, providing updates on Foundation requests and Community Involvement activities and programs
Managing the Harvest for Hunger and United Way Employee Giving campaign for JCP&L
Coordinating and overseeing the United Way Day of Action / Day of Caring
Assisting employees with organizing team charitable events, In-Kind donations, volunteer opportunities and leveraging matching gifts and sponsorships
Representing the company in NJ on philanthropic and nonprofit boards;
Performing site visits of nonprofit organizations, and attending check presentations, as available
Overseeing the development and/or management of the NJ Community Involvement Centers.
Organizing employee volunteer opportunities in the NJ operating company
Provide set-up and post-storm support to NJ operations during extended storm restoration
Collaborate with local JCP&L Communications Representative to optimize positive press opportunities for JCP&L and FirstEnergy Foundation.
Responding daily to community relations-related customer inquiries and requests coming through the FE Community Involvement mailbox.
Qualifications include:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Communications, Social Science or related discipline is required
Minimum 10 years related work experience is required. Related work experience includes positions in public relations, marketing, communications, and customer relations with emphasis on demonstrated problem solving skills and customer service
Experience in the community involvement area and a fundamental understanding of community outreach activities preferred
Experience serving on nonprofit boards and working with non-profit organizations preferred
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
A fundamental understanding of managing employee volunteer activities
Possess strong analytical, decision making, leadership and interpersonal skills
Exceptional written and verbal communications skills
Excellent planning, organizational and time management skills
Demonstrated leadership capacity for team-building and engaging employees across business units and demographics
Demonstrated experience in building community relationships
