Yahoo News is looking for a dynamic head of design to help drive its visual storytelling.

Responsibilities:



  • Define and shape the visual identity of Yahoo News: Create a style guide that ensures consistency, innovation, and alignment between editorial design elements and our brand and product design across all platforms.


  • Build and lead a multidisciplinary team: Oversee designers, photo editors, video, and animators, driving the creative vision and maintaining the highest standards of visual storytelling.


  • Develop and execute multi-platform campaigns: Oversee the design of all content and franchises across web, app, social, newsletter, and video.


  • Identify and implement new workflows and processes: Enhance productivity and operational efficiency across the team.


  • Collaborate with marketing and product teams: Work closely with marketing, including external agencies, and product design to ensure all visual content aligns with broader brand strategies and product goals.


  • Oversee the execution of visual content: Make strategic decisions on design priorities and resource allocation.


  • Ensure compliance with brand guidelines: Maintain and enforce brand standards across all creative outputs, ensuring consistency and quality across all platforms.


  • Analyze and adapt to audience insights: Use data and audience insights to refine creative strategies and tailor visual content to meet evolving user needs and preferences.


  • Maintain strong relationships with editorial leaders: Align visual content with newsroom priorities and broader strategic goals.


  • Prioritize and allocate resources across multiple high-impact projects: Balance the needs of various departments with available talent and time.

Requirements:


  • 10+ years of experience in creative direction or design leadership: Extensive background in leading teams and shaping large-scale visual identities, particularly in major media organizations.

  • Proven ability to lead and inspire cross-functional teams: Successfully managed diverse creative teams across multiple platforms, driving innovation and consistency.

  • Expertise in multi-platform execution: Demonstrated success in overseeing integrated campaigns across digital, video, and social media.

  • Deep knowledge of user-centered design methodologies: Extensive experience in applying design thinking to innovate in digital media and align with business goals.

  • Exceptional communication and strategic thinking: Skilled at articulating complex ideas and presenting compelling narratives to both creative teams and executive leadership.

  • Experience managing large-scale resource allocation: Effectively prioritizes and allocates resources across high-impact projects, ensuring optimal use of talent and time.

  • Expertise in optimizing workflows and managing freelance talent: Proven track record of enhancing team productivity and maintaining high standards through strong freelance networks.

The compensation for this position ranges from $172,645.00 - $375,285.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions, in addition to equity incentives.
