Job Summary: The Internship and Study Away Coordinator will play a pivotal role in expanding and enhancing Alfred State College's internship program(s). The role involves developing new internship opportunities, particularly paid internships and support mechanisms for unpaid internships, while also addressing logistical barriers faced by students. The Coordinator will oversee the creation of 30 new internships, support 20-70 existing ones, and provide direct assistance to over 50 students, laying the groundwork for further program expansion.

Key Responsibilities:

Program development:

  • Development of internship policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Development of internship program goals, objectives, and assessment plans.
  • Evaluate and make recommendations for improvement to the internship program.

Program Expansion:

  • Develop and implement strategies to create 20-30 new paid internships across campus and in collaboration with local businesses and government organizations. This includes positions within the municipal and county government, local businesses, college's Facilities Trades units, business offices, academic programs, and more.
  • Partner with the Village of Alfred to establish up to ten new internships in business, marketing, and digital media fields to support the local businesses.
  • Develop new campus-based paid internships for skilled labor students from Applied Technology programs, Technology Management, or Construction Management programs.
  • Assist with the development and support of Study Away programs to include internship opportunities for students studying away from campus (e.g. Sorrento program).

Living Stipend Program:

  • Design and manage a stipend program to support students participating in unpaid internships in public service and high-demand nonprofit sectors. This includes providing financial assistance for lodging, food, and other living expenses.

Support Services:

  • Create and manage a program to provide stipends for transportation, childcare, and other support needs to enable students to participate in internships. Address logistical barriers such as travel, daycare, equipment, and professional attire.

Internship Administration:

  • Oversee the recruitment, onboarding, placement, and tracking of interns. Develop and maintain relationships with industry partners, local businesses, and academic departments.
  • Monitor and evaluate internship placements to ensure they meet both student and organizational needs.

Student and Employer Support:

  • Serve as the contact for interns and employers. Provide guidance, resolve issues, and facilitate professional development opportunities.
  • Collect feedback from students and employers to assess the effectiveness of the program and identify areas for improvement.

Reporting and Evaluation:

  • Track and report on internship program metrics, including the number of internships created, student participation, and program outcomes.
  • Prepare and present reports on the program's impact and effectiveness to college administration and stakeholders.


Job Requirements:

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree. In lieu of a bachelor's degree, a combination of relevant experience with an associate's degree may be considered.

Experience: Proven experience in program coordination (does not need to be internship specific). Experience in educational or non-profit settings is highly desirable, but not required.

Skills:

  • Strong organizational abilities.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS) or similar tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education: Master's degree or, bachelor's degree with five years of related experience.
