Job Details



This role for the AW2030 Program will be full time, and you will be committed to this program for a minimum of one year. The level for this role is flexible and this position may be hired at various levels. We are invested in your development and supporting your career with American Water. At the program's completion, we expect your placement in a role at a similar or higher level than your current role.




Primary Role




  • Maintaining and monitoring project plans, project schedules, work hours, budgets, and expenditures.
  • Organizing, attending, and participating in stakeholder meetings.
  • Documenting and following up on important actions and decisions from meetings.
  • Preparing necessary presentation materials for meetings.
  • Ensuring project deadlines are met.
  • Determining project changes.
  • Providing administrative support as needed.
  • Undertaking project tasks as required.
  • Developing project strategies.
  • Ensuring projects adhere to frameworks and all documentation is maintained appropriately for each project.
  • Assess project risks and issues and provide solutions where applicable.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply application technologies to solve practical problems in a high-tech development environment with multifunction teams for large, complex systems with minimal direction.
  • Translate AW's business strategy and goals into successful projects.
  • Recommend application design based on Build, Buy or Enhance criteria.
  • Develop and maintain project management principles.
  • Maintain budget and track contracts, agreements, and scopes of work.
  • Prepares periodic reports, financial statements and records on program activities, progress, status or other special reports for management.
  • Develops and facilitates workshops, meetings or conferences, coordinates logistics, scheduling and participant communications.




Key Accountabilities




  • Lead the project and product management initiatives to achieve results.
  • Support leadership in managing customer expectations for project implementation and manage stakeholder communications.
  • Engage closely with internal customers to understand what business objectives are desired through technology enablement and work with the Product Management & Product Engineering teams to ensure these projects are successful.
  • Drive the effort to manage and direct projects that match short-term and long-term business goals with specific technology solutions to help meet those goals.
  • Work with the line of business leaders and industry experts, to ensure the plans help reach a consensus about a set of needs and the technologies required to satisfy those needs, provide a mechanism to help implement technology developments, and provide a framework to help plan and coordinate technology implementations.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to ensure that key projects are aligned with business requirements, including budget and finance considerations.




Knowledge/Skills




  • Sound understanding of project / program management best practices
  • Ability to understand and articulate complex water and wastewater industry business processes.
  • Strong Communication skills and ability to tailor communications to the appropriate level.
  • Past experience working with corporate strategy; technology; Water, wastewater or other utility experience; and/or a program management office is preferred.
  • Knowledge analyzing industry trends and conditions to inform various strategies.
  • Knowledge of Agile management process.
  • Technical competency with broad understanding of the technical issues and ability to keep up to date with new appropriate technology skills.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office Products.




Experience/Education




  • Minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience for a large company or division of a corporation requiring project management and executing on multiple priorities.
  • Experience working with and influencing top leadership, executives or board members.
  • Regulated Utility Experience a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Project Management, Finance, Accounting, Engineering, Marketing, Communications and/or Computer Science/Technology area is preferred.



Work Location



  • This is a Hybrid position 3/2 WFH Schedule (where we have AW footprint).
