Great opportunity for a dynamic, skilled and motivated coach to lead an established year-round swim team for the Waukee Family YMCA. While ensuring a constructive, encouraging and athlete-centered environment, this position is responsible for seasonal planning, coordinating effective and efficient execution of daily age group swimming operations, overseeing swimmer and coach development, providing oversight to the age group coaching staff, and fostering communication with all families and staff members. This position will need to coach, lead and motivate athletes in practice groups and at meets, promoting improvement and growth. In addition, this full-time position's off-deck responsibilities will include administrative and operational tasks vital to team management, growth and culture. This position is a part of the Y's aquatics leadership team, working together to deliver high quality, impactful programming for the people we serve.


POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for planning, managing, and directing the competitive swim team and for ensuring the safety of participants while operating within the policies, procedures, and practices of the YMCA of Greater Des Moines.

JOB LOCATION: Waukee Family YMCA
HOURS/DAYS SCHEDULE: 40 hour work week including early mornings, evenings and/or weekend hours to accommodate practice schedules and swim competitions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Hire, supervise, train and direct assistant coaches.
In conjunction with supervisor, prepare season training plan/themes/focus and develop team events.
Plan, write, schedule, and direct all team practices and meets.
Maintain proper records, team lists, and reports as needed.
Address member concerns by appointments and/or phone conversations.
Relate to individual members on a professional basis at all times.
Monitor and maintain equipment.
Ensure safety of participants by enforcing policies and disciplinary rules.
Report specific problems or needs to supervisor or designated staff person.
Create an environment that welcomes all types of swimmers from varying levels and backgrounds.
Communicate with the team and staff information regarding team activities, meets, goals and daily training plans.
Develop and execute the practice plan.
Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or designated staff person.
Demonstrate and support the objectives of the Association as embodied in the mission statement and values.
