Job Description:


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  Works under the general supervision of the Public Works Director in conjunction with the Mayor’s Neighborhood Special Assistant to help citizens, neighborhood leaders, community based organizations, and businesses solve persistent problems and issues impacting neighborhoods. Maintains up to date information on city policy, and division responsibilities regarding city services. Receives and responds to citizens inquiries and complaints, creates service requests, and tracks issues through resolution. Coordinates public engagement work to provide enhanced collaboration with neighborhoods and communities. Collaborates and advises management, other division staff members, and community organizations regarding issues, concerns, and potential solutions to neighborhood concerns and issues. Attends neighborhood and partner agency meetings, sessions, and forums. Works with Neighborhood staff, and neighborhood leaders on tours to review issues and initiate action. Prepares and maintains reports on neighborhood outreach activities, progress, and results. Coordinates and monitors the implementation of neighborhood projects in conjunction with other city divisions. Maintains updated databases of community partners. Works with the Office of Performance Management to develop metrics and track data. Assists neighborhood groups to utilize processes to resolve issues. Prepares and facilitates presentations to various groups. Prepares informational documents and reports. Assists in the development and dissemination of public information using various methods such as mailers, email, or social media outlets. Provides citizens with specific information regarding city services and places the citizen’s requests in the customer relationship management system (C.R.M) to deal with specific inquiry/ concerns.  


 


OTHER FUNCTIONS: 


1. Performs additional functions (essential or otherwise) which may be assigned. 


 


TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.  Requires the ability to operate general office equipment such as a personal computer and telephone.  Requires the ability to operate automobile to drive to various meetings or facilitates.  Requires some lifting, bending, crouching, and carrying objects such as office supplies.      


 


TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Majority of work is performed in an office environment.  May be exposed to various temperatures, odors, fumes, noise or unpleasant surroundings while at meeting and neighborhood activities.  Frequently travels throughout the City to various locations.  Must be able to work various shifts, weekends, overtime, and holidays.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or other closely related fields and five (5) years’ experience in coordinating and developing neighborhood and community enhancement programs or events; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license as condition of continued employment. 


The City Charter requires that City Employees must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from date of Employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire.
