Axogen is hiring for a Plant Controller in Vandalia, OH!




Job Summary of the Plant Controller


Reporting to the Director, Controller, the Plant Controller will oversee the financial operations of Axogen's tissue processing facilities in Vandalia and Dayton, Ohio, outside contract manufacturer, and distribution facility in Burleson, Texas. The role is responsible for maintaining financial integrity, ensuring compliance with corporate policies and regulatory requirements, and supporting the plant management team with financial insights to drive operational efficiency and profitability. The Plant Controller will also play a key role in financial planning, reporting, and analysis for the facility. The role is 100% in office in Vandalia, Ohio with occasional travel required.


Requirements of the Plant Controller

  • Bachelors in Accounting required; Masters in Accounting a plus, MBA (Master in Business Administration) a plus.
  • Active CPA, required.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in financial management, with at least 7 years in a manufacturing environment, preferably within an FDA-regulated industry.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, cost accounting, and financial analysis.
  • Public company industry experience, required.
  • Previous public accounting experience serving public companies required; at a Big 4 or large regional firm necessary; 3+ years preferred in assurance/audit.
  • Previous life science industry experience, preferred.
  • Experience with Accounting Software, i.e. Great Plains a plus.
  • Knowledge of FDA regulations and compliance requirements in a manufacturing setting.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence and drive change across functions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial audiences.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities of the Plant Controller


The specific duties of the Plant Controller include but are not limited to:
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis:
    • Analyze plant financial performance, including variances to budget, forecasts, and prior periods, and provide actionable insights to management.
    • Monitor key financial metrics, identify trends, and recommend corrective actions to improve financial performance.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting:
    • Lead the annual budgeting process for the plant, working closely with plant management to develop realistic and achievable financial targets.
    • Prepare periodic financial forecasts, incorporating input from plant operations, supply chain, and other key functions.
    • Analyze budget vs. actual results, identify variances, and support the development of corrective action plans.
  • Cost Control & Inventory Management:
    • Oversee the plant's cost accounting activities, ensuring accurate tracking of production costs, labor, materials, and overhead.
    • Implement and maintain effective inventory management practices, including cycle counting, variance analysis, and inventory valuation.
    • Work closely with operations to identify and implement cost-saving initiatives and efficiency improvements.
  • Internal Controls & Compliance:
    • Ensure adherence to corporate internal control policies and procedures, including Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance.
    • Conduct regular reviews and audits of financial processes to ensure accuracy, compliance, and integrity.
    • Ensure compliance with all FDA regulations related to financial and operational reporting, particularly as they pertain to cost accounting, inventory, and capital expenditures.
  • Capital Management:
    • Support the evaluation and financial justification of capital expenditure projects, ensuring alignment with corporate strategic objectives.
    • Monitor capital spending and ensure projects are completed within budget and on time.
    • Assist in the financial analysis of new product launches, expansions, or other significant plant investments.
  • Team Leadership & Development:
    • Lead, mentor, and develop the plant finance team fostering a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and professional growth.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, quality, supply chain, and engineering to support the plant's financial objectives.
    • Provide training and guidance on financial processes and controls to non-financial plant personnel.

This position is eligible for an annual bonus. Salary Range


$165,000-$185,000 USD


Axogen is on a hybrid work schedule for some of our positions based out of our headquarters in Florida, with 3 days in office and 2 days remote. The hybrid work schedule does not include sales or facilities in Ohio or Texas.

Axogen follows healthcare system guidelines with respect to credentialing, vaccinations and other employment/compliance related requirements, as well as CDC guidance. Axogen reserves the right to amend its policies from time to time in its sole discretion.
