Position Summary
The wet laboratory manager will be responsible for managing processing and assaying blood samples collected from projects within the Biobehavioral Mechanisms Explaining Disparities (BMED) Lab by the laboratory team. The wet laboratory manager should be able to train and support laboratory members and oversee project management tasks. They will also be asked to introduce new methods to investigate the relevant changes in cell biological/immunological function as a result of specific human behavior/conditions. They will coordinate an organized system for storing and recording biological data and will manage the laboratory's inventory of equipment and consumables. The wet laboratory manager should also be able to ensure that private information of study participants remains confidential.

This position is funded by a grant, soft and/or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of funding.

Working Environment


  • This role is full-time onsite
  • Physical Demands: - requires working in a wet laboratory (up to eight hours per day), working at a computer, and obtaining materials from upstairs/downstairs occasionally


Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree with major coursework in one of the major sciences

    • In lieu of the education requirement, additional related experience, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year for year basis may be substituted


  • 3+ years of experience in research work

    • In lieu of the experience requirement, additional related education, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year for year basis may be substituted



Preferences

  • Master's degree with major coursework in one of the major sciences with some knowledge of cellular immunology and cell biology.
  • Knowledge of cell culture
  • Wet laboratory experience
  • Experience working in an institution of higher education
  • Experience working with Oracle ERP system.
  • Able to handle biospecimens carefully

Essential Functions

  • Manages the daily requirements to run the laboratory
  • Trains and guides new lab members and students
  • Prepares plasma and serum samples from human blood samples
  • Performs in vitro leukocyte cultures
  • Performs phenotyping of leukocyte subpopulations by FACS technology
  • Isolation of peripheral blood leukocytes
  • Responsible for intake and registration of samples
  • Constructs, assembles, and operates laboratory apparatus and equipment
  • Performs cytokine analysis and determines cellular bioenergetics using Seahorse Technology
  • Ensure accuracy, validity and reliability of data. Implement quality control measures to validate findings and conclusions drawn from research
  • Works with the lab's data team to ensure standardized organization of data
  • Coordinates ordering lab supplies and equipment as needed
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, providing expertise in wet lab methodologies and data analysis
