Your Role



The Director, Strategic Investments plays a vital role in prioritizing and executing strategic initiatives that influence Chegg's growth trajectory. In this role, you will help drive two principal functions that underpin the team's impact: (1) planning and execution of Chegg's M&A and investments and (2) analysis, debate, and consensus-building around our strategic options, through rigorous financial analysis and long-range planning. In this highly visible role, you are expected to advocate thoughtfully on behalf of Chegg's strategic interests, catalyzing the alignment and execution necessary to achieve them.



Responsibilities



  • Work directly with the VP, Strategic Growth along with internal stakeholders across key functions, including senior executives

  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of Chegg's strategic priorities along with the pathways that bring them to fruition; nurture an intellectually authentic environment for making high-stakes decisions

  • Support, and ideally lead, all phases of the M&A process, including in the areas of target identification, relationship development, business analysis, valuation, negotiation, execution, and integration planning

  • Lead financial analyses that (1) bring clarity to ROI, (2) clearly articulate business model implications, and (3) reinforce the long-term financial objectives of the company; support the framing, quantification, and prioritization process

  • Prepare and deliver evidence-based presentations supported by compelling strategic narratives and rationale

  • Contribute to the development of supporting strategies that dovetail with Chegg's overall goals

  • Develop trusted and resourceful relationships both internally and externally to sharpen our strategic and competitive perspective




Requirements



  • 10+ years of experience in corporate development, private equity, investment banking, or related field with direct experience leading some, if not all, aspects of M&A transactions

  • Significant experience coordinating multi-disciplinary teams in the execution of M&A transactions, including thesis development, due diligence, negotiation, execution, and integration

  • Exceptional versatility: able to effectively prioritize, zoom-in/zoom-out in accordance with business needs; grit

  • Highly proficient in business and financial analysis, able to synthesize meaningful insights with imperfect information

  • Substantial experience building relationships with senior management, both internally and externally

  • Able to report into our Santa Clara, CA headquarters (preferred) or our New York, NY office

  • Bachelor's degree, MBA preferred

  • Demonstrated interest or direct experience in EdTech is a plus



The pay range for this position is $227,371 - 422,260. The actual pay will vary based on geographic location, job requirements, professional experience, and other factors.
