Position Summary

This position will lead the design of a new compiler and necessary libraries and runtime support, designed to meet a challenging mix of speed and space constraints arising in business-critical production settings. The role will be expected to have a broad knowledge of compilers, interpreters, and their associated runtime support. Candidates should have several years’ experience developing compilers in a significant commercial or open-source context. It would be useful to have expertise in compilation of both static and dynamic languages, and targeting WebAssembly.

Primary Responsibilities


  • Design and implement new compiler, from concept to production

  • Monitor and optimize system time/space performance

  • Stay abreast of latest developments in compilation and optimization

  • Support roadmap development and recruiting activities

  • Help set expectations with software, architecture, and hardware stakeholders

  • Provide technical leadership to a small team of engineers

  • Work with geographically distributed compiler, architecture and application teams to oversee improvements and problem resolutions

Qualifications


  • MS/PhD in PL/Compilers highly desirable

  • Broad knowledge of compilers, interpreters, and their associated runtime support.

  • Several years of experience developing compilers in a significant commercial or open-source context

  • Proficiency in a variety of development styles and languages, both static and dynamic

  • Exposure/experience targeting Wasm a plus

  • Strong design and analytical skills

  • Excellent leadership and collaboration skills

  • Strong background in software engineering principles with a focus on crafting robust and maintainable solutions to challenging problems

  • Good communication and documentation skills

The annual U.S. base pay range for this position is: $237,848.00 - $356,772.00

F5 maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, geographic locations, and market conditions, as well as to reflect F5’s differing products, industries, and lines of business. The pay range referenced is as of the time of the job posting and is subject to change.
