Harvard Business School seeks a full-time Research Associate to support qualitative research for two Faculty in the General Management unit. The scope of work will include but is not limited to: writing case studies, performing literature reviews, and additional writing support as needed for several research cases centered on front line workers. Research will be centered on front line workers macro data, impact of the industrial revolution, job safety, and the impact of AI technology among other areas.

The Research Associate will report directly to the faculty and administrative manager in the Research Staff Services office. Ideal candidates will be comfortable in an environment that requires a high level of independence, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to use discretionary judgment.

Primary Duties
  • Write cases, academic journal articles, case supplements, and project reports from start to finish creating original writing based on subject area expertise, research, and interviews. Independently manage all timelines and deliverables for multiple projects with competing priorities.
  • Provide qualitative analysis, writing, and editing of academic journal articles, HBS cases, and HBS teaching notes. Propose, develop, synthesize, and provide analysis of literature reviews.
  • Preparing for case interviews with C-suite level Leaders.
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in any field is required.

  • Proven evidence of independent research in specific advanced field of study.
  • Demonstrated skill at navigating complex organizations.
  • Proven ability to work independently and creatively.
  • This position requires an individual capable of consistent use of discretion, judgment, and initiative. Evidence of prior high-quality, original academic writing, and background in analysis and interpretation of relevant data, research, news, and literature. Ability to read academic, subject-specific information and write a reasoned and thoughtful analysis, as well as produce a creative interpretation, is a must.
  • Diplomatic skills, comfort in interacting with prominent individuals, and grace under pressure are essential.
  • Strong skills related to Microsoft Office Suite are expected.


Additional Information

This is a full-time role beginning as soon as possible (start date flexible) through June 2025. All Research Associate roles at HBS are structured as one-year term appointments with potential for renewal based on funding and performance.

This is a hybrid position which we consider to be a combination of remote and onsite work at our Boston, MA based campus. HBS expects all staff to be onsite 3 days per week and departments provide onsite coverage Monday - Friday. Specific hours and days onsite will be determined by business needs and are subject to change with appropriate advanced notice.

We may conduct candidate interviews virtually (phone and/or via Zoom) and/or in-person for this role.
