Responsibilities

What you'll be challenged to do:

Gannett Fleming TranSystems’ Pittsburgh office has an immediate opening for a Bridge Technician. This position is open to experienced CAD technicians with 3 to 10 years of experience. This position is for a person with a basic operational understanding of computer graphics and drafting.  This position includes preparation of plan sets for structural design and rehabilitation of bridges. Day to day assignments and technical guidance will be provided by Project Managers and Project Engineers. Applicants must possess strong technical skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and must be able to work well in a team environment on multi-disciplinary projects.

Primary Responsibilities (others may be included):


  • Copies sketches, layouts, and drawings prepared by others on to CAD, using MicroStation CAD platform

  • Will learn proficiency in operation of computer-aided drafting

  • Assignments of increasing difficulty will be submitted as proficiency is increased

  • Understand and follow the company's standard CAD procedures for layers/levels, line styles, etc., and standard drawing procedures for sheet layout

  • Bridge Design assignments involving contract plans preparation requiring quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets and schedules

  • Prepare plans, sketches, tables, and other documents required for design submissions

  • Office support for construction support services

  • Follow project delivery and quality control procedures and standards in compliance with client and company specific guidelines on time and within budget.

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

  • Individual is flexible and may work with numerous project teams to help in project completion

  • Maintain neat and orderly work area that will allow access to project information to other team members

Qualifications

What you bring to our firm:


  • Team oriented technician and strong communicator with ability to work concurrently within multiple project demands and transitioning priorities

  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Basic understanding of Engineering and Architectural Scales

  • Problem Solving - Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; Gathers and analyzes information skillfully

  • Task Management - Coordinates tasks; Communicates changes and progress to supervisor or Project Manager; Completes tasks on time and within budget

  • Team Work - Balances team and individual responsibilities

  • No relocation assistance - Local candidates preferred

What we’d prefer for you to bring to our firm:


  • Associates Degree in related field

  • Experience with PennDOT and Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission standards, Design Manuals, and specifications.

  • Experience with Bentley MicroStation; knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit and Civil 3D preferred.  Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat or Bluebeam, MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.) desired

  • Understanding World Coordinate Systems and Preparation of civil site plans is a plus

  • Experience in plan preparation of new bridge design and bridge rehabilitation projects
