Role Details:

We are seeking a dynamic Acoustical Engineer to join our audio product development team. This role is ideal for a professional with a few years of experience who is ready to accelerate their career at a company known for pushing the boundaries of sound. You'll be at the forefront of developing next-generation noise cancelling headphones, engaging in the full development cycle, taking your design from early design concept, to prototype testing, and into mass production. Responsibilities:


  • Collaborate with engineering team members to design, build, and test headphone products with audio playback, active noise cancellation, and voice pickup features

  • Investigate and develop acoustic system design concepts to achieve product performance requirements

  • Use simulation tools to predict acoustic system behavior

  • Define, build, and characterize physical prototypes of acoustic systems

  • Conduct acoustic measurements of components, subsystems, and full assemblies and perform analysis of results

  • Define and develop novel acoustic test methods as needed to improve understanding of system behaviors

  • Work directly with DSP and controls engineers to tune and optimize system performance

  • Clearly communicate results through informal peer reviews and at formal design reviews

  • Collaborate with teammates to define, specify, and validate production test equipment and processes

  • Support prototype and production system builds both remotely and on-location at the factory

  • Root cause acoustic failures and recommend design changes to prevent recurrence

  • Opportunity to lead small projects or mentor junior team members as skills and experience allow

  • Travel (domestic and international) expected, approximately 2-4 weeks per year

Qualifications:


  • BS or MS degree in Acoustical Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Physics or related audio field

  • 2 - 5 years of professional experience designing high performing audio products

  • Strong candidates will have experience in several of the following areas: headphone acoustic structures and enclosure design, active noise cancellation, audio EQ design, transducer selection and specification, mic array design for voice communication

  • Hands on experience building physical prototypes and applying analysis techniques to audio systems

  • Experience with audio system interface tools and design optimization to achieve performance tagets

  • Hands-on experience with acoustic test tools and measurement methods (B&K, Audio Precision, Soundcheck, etc.)

  • Knowledge of acoustic modeling fundamentals - e.g. lumped models, FEA. Experience with tools like COMSOL a plus.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills; ability to lead self and others to troubleshoot issues methodically from root cause

  • Self-motivated and continuous learner mentality with ability to rapidly develop technical capabilities on the job

  • Excellent communication aptitude; ability to clearly convey complex technical concepts

  • Collaborative team player comfortable interfacing with cross-functional engineering partners

  • Passion for music and audio with critical listening sensibilities
