AA&D is comprised of the University Development Office (UDO), Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) Development, AA&D Resources, the Harvard Alumni Association (HAA), and the Office of the Vice President (OVP).

The Academic and Donor Engagement (ADE), Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) team manages and implements donor engagement strategies and activities by facilitating coordination between the development office and the FAS Dean, SEAS Dean, academic deans and faculty, senior academic administrators, and development leadership. The supports event content and programming, manages development trips for the aforementioned constituencies, and assists in the strategic development and execution of leadership engagement committees and their activities across the FAS.

This position will sit within ADE and report to the Director of Development. In partnership with fundraising colleagues, this position oversees the identification, recruitment, coordination, preparation, and follow up for an assigned portfolio of FAS academic partners for development activity, including donor meetings and events. This position is responsible for developing a strong understanding of divisional priorities and working with academic deans to identify faculty who can effectively convey priorities, represent cutting edge research, and align with prospect interests. This position serves as a principal point of contact to FAS faculty and leaders who participate in FAS development activity. This position also maintains a portfolio of event program creation. Responsible for communication, coordination, travel planning, brie?ng, and follow-up with faculty and senior academic leaders related to their involvement with FAS development with the support of a coordinator.

This role is a one year time-limited position from the start date.

Position Description

  • Serves as a principal contact for FAS development activity. Identi?es and recruits faculty and senior administrators for development-related activity. Ensures strategic use and acknowledgement of faculty development involvement, including identifying and coordinating opportunities for collaboration within the FAS Development organization.
  • Develops speaker/academic programming and content for a range of development events, working closely with fundraisers and event planning colleagues. Oversees brie?ng process (in-person and written) and follow-up for speakers.
  • Manages information ?ow and decision-making processes, including collaboration with other development departments and Harvard academic o?ces. Researches, identifies, and vets newer faculty for participation in development programming.
  • Works with the Director to develop fiscal year plans for assigned academic leaders and administrators including virtual visits, travel plans, event participation, and other FAS development needs.
  • Partners with fundraisers to develop and prioritize meeting pipelines for administrators and strategizes with fundraisers for one-off faculty requests that drives donor strategy and FAS fundraising priorities.
  • Plans and leads monthly meeting with academic leaders and their respective teams. Sets agenda, determines appropriate attendees, and provides oversight on next steps and internal communications.
  • Oversees the work of a coordinator who supports development activity of assigned portfolio. Oversight of specifics tasks includes but not limited to: outreach, scheduling, itinerary creation, meeting preparation, pipeline maintenance, data maintenance/audits, and Advance entry
  • Coordinates and communicates with fundraisers on donor engagement strategies. Works to ensure that strategies are developed/implemented in ways that advance the fundraising priorities of the FAS and University.
  • Writes, reviews/edits, and distributes event and prospect meeting brie?ngs.
  • As needed, responsible for donor engagement and team process projects at the direction of the Director.
  • Attends planning meetings, training sessions, events, and conferences as necessary.
  • Cultivates favorable working relationships with institutional and external constituencies. Provides highest level of client service.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required
  • A minimum of 5 years relevant work experience; preferably in a fundraising and/or academic environment
  • Proven ability in project management
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software
  • Occasionally work additional evening, weekend hours, and limited travel

  • Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and promote good working relationships with alumni, colleagues, faculty, administrators, and students.
  • Must be ?exible and possess the ability to handle multiple tasks accurately under deadline pressure.
  • Proven ability working in a complex organization and making informed decisions in the context of strategic organizational goals and policies.
  • Must be able to work independently and take initiative. Must have ability to handle con?dential materials with discretion.
  • Must be a professional, proactive, creative, collaborative, conscientious, and results-oriented individual. Should have ability to think strategically and conceptually, and display sound judgment.
  • Solid computer skills in a PC environment with the capability to master new software applications and technologies, including database management.
  • Must be energetic, motivated to learn and open to change.
  • Excellent speaking, writing, and client service skills required. Professional phone etiquette required.

This role is a one year time-limited position from the start date.

It requires a 3 month orientation and review period.
