Job Title: VP, BD LS Excellence




Reports to: EVP & President, Life Sciences Segment



Location: Remote



Travel: Up to 60% with domestic and international travel



Overview



Reporting to the EVP & President, Life Sciences Segment, this leadership role has the responsibility for developing best in class commercial standard work and developing a culture of continuous improvement and visual management to achieve BD financial targets. The focus of the role is in accelerating and optimizing performance as well as driving standardization - where appropriate - to maximize value creation across BD LS Commercial global footprint. The key activities of the role are to assess, plan and execute all elements of transformational performance to improve year-on-year productivity, revenue leadership and the adoption of commercial tools and process excellence. The VP, BD LS Excellence is a member of the Life Sciences Leadership Team and works closely across all segments and regions to ensure revenue, delivery and cost objectives are met.



Primary Responsibilities and Duties



  • Leads commercial excellence strategy, driving standard work across Business Units and a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Work with the EVP, HR leadership, Presidents and other key executives to develop an organizational structure and recruit top talent to drive BD Excellence commercial through the BU's.

  • Partners with the EVP to lead commercial excellence strategy development and deployment for all BUs and regions. Ensures strategic alignment through cascading Key Performance Indicators (KPIs') top down and bottom up. Support leadership team in creating strategic vision of improvement goals and governance process to ensure achievement of those KPIs.

  • Owns the "BD Excellence" Operating System for LS Commercial teams- driving a strategic approach to optimize the End-to-End BD sales, marketing and commercial network. Utilizing industry best practices, IT business process and digitalization technologies to ensure key Strategic deliverables are met.

  • Owns the cascade of the BD Excellence commercial toolbox. Utilizing best in class digital training tools (seismic, etc.), certification programs and a mindset of apprenticeship to accelerate the adoption of BD Excellence and transform the tools into a key component of BD's culture.

  • Utilizes best in class tools (Kaizen, VM/DM, Problem Solving, Funnel Mgmt. & Win Rooms) to drive results

  • Drive a kaizen culture, fostering a continuous improvement mindset that is grounded on sustainable results

  • Work hand in hand with EVP and BD Senior Leaders to determine waste within the commercial enterprise. Based on findings, working with LS Business President's and regional/functional leadership to develop novel approaches to improve efficiency, engagement, a feeling of true ownership and cost savings.

  • Owns process and governance for major commercial excellence initiatives. As appropriate, provide leadership or supporting roles on major projects (e.g. Gross Profit taskforce etc.). Work closely with Business Units, regions, and other functions to ensure delivery of optimized plan.

  • Explores external market for enabling capabilities and technologies in support of BDX Continuous Improvement strategy. Promote innovation across the commercial organization. Serves as a change agent to facilitate strategic technological shifts / introductions.

  • On a worldwide basis, leads effort to develop future talent and continuous improvement capabilities across the commercial organization and to support the adoption of lean management at the enterprise level.






Scope of Responsibility



Oversees the strategic direction for the application of appropriate technology and associated work systems required to improve process reliability, lower costs, and drive best practice adoption across the LS commercial organization.



  • Sphere of Influence: Nature of the role requires the ability to influence peers, management team members, and subordinates to enhance cross-business collaboration and drive change initiatives.


  • Examples of internal (BD) contacts: Executive Leadership Team (BD CEO and direct reports), BU Presidents, Segment Presidents, Central Marketing and Commercial Excellence teams, BD Excellence Acceleration Office, Sales, marketing, Pricing and regional commercial organizations working in all parts of the company.


  • Examples of external (outside of BD) c
    ontacts: Customers, Channels, and commercial partners like IDNs






Impact on Business Results



Using lean principle and best in class operating system fundamentals, BD Commercial Excellence will drive improved win rates, funnel additions, funnel velocity and ultimately share gain. Through these improvements segments within BD will be able to demonstrate increased revenue, improved operating profit and overall associate engagement, as these tools will enable faster and more informed decisions and s when deployed correctly will make work easier.



KSA Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)



  • Advanced and in-depth knowledge of Process and Lean techniques that are deployed in a commercial setting.

  • Sales experience both, ideally as both a Sales Rep, Sales Manager and in Sales Operations

  • 10+ years of Commercial Experience with a proven track record of driving process to achieve results

  • A track record of sales excellence, proven through tangible results (revenue, share gain, margin, President Club, etc.)

  • Experience working with Salesforce.com (funnel management, dashboards, and Marketing automation tools (Marketo, Eloqua, Pardot)

  • Experience utilizing tools such as Power BI, Einstein, etc. to visualize sales data

  • Significant experience in the art of Problem Solving, Visual Management, Kaizen and KPI development

  • Strong leadership - demonstrated ability to effectively motivate teams, hire exceptional talent, making timely hiring and firing decisions, and drive influence across a matrix organization.

  • Ability to put together concise communication (PPTX, Email) and present to senior leadership in a professional and direct manner

  • Entrepreneurial Mindset. Proven ability to drive new programs and initiatives with limited direction

  • Experience leading a Global team and working across cultures

  • Proven track record of Learning Agility. Taking on new projects and roles and demonstrating success within an accelerated time frame

  • Education / Degree: BS degree required.

  • Thorough knowledge of cost systems, quality systems, management principles and practices, sales and other commercial processes, and new product development processes.

  • Knowledge of regulatory framework for Medical Devices, federal, state, or local mandates including, but not limited to, FDA, OSHA, EPA, SFDA, etc. preferred
