The Disability Claims Specialist (DCS) is accountable for direct support of the Team Lead on the claim team ensuring optimal claims handling and timely, accurate decisions of the claim team for handling Long-Term (LTD) Disability claims for a dedicated account.

The successful candidate will be aligned to a West Coast-based client and will be expected to work under the West Coast time zone.

The current employee work arrangement for this position is fully virtual. While this position does not require your on-site presence on a regular basis, depending on business preferences, there may be occasions where you are required to be on-site at a Prudential office. With this position being fully virtually, new hires must be able to provide the following:


  • High speed internet service must be available in your area. You must be willing to troubleshoot any issues or outages with your home internet service, contacting your service provider as necessary. The internet service cannot be wireless, and the internet speed requirement is: 3.0 mg downstream and 768k upstream.


  • Must have the capability to handle calls with a cell phone (would need to have unlimited data and minutes) or a landline. You will be logging into Avaya therefore your personal phone number will not be identified to customers.


  • Quiet area in your home with minimal distractions and noise free.

  • A strong customer focus by serving as the liaison between the group customer, broker, Work Comp Carrier and Sedgwick Operations Team.


  • Consistently strong engagement and critical thinking leading to effective problem solving and increasing efficiency and high-quality claims management to benefit overall customer experience.


  • Demonstrated solid relationship management skills with internal and/or external clients (e.g., management, peers, colleagues, claimants)


  • Possess excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and multi-task while maintaining strict attention to detail


  • Ability to process increasingly complex claims ensuring fair, ethical, and timely processing of assigned claims


  • Assist group customer with training, development and communication needs.


  • Supports the group customer and Sedgwick Operations team as needed on changes in policies or process flows.


What you’ll need:


  • 4-5 years’ experience in complex or LTD claim management required


  • Exceptional claim/risk management skills and technical knowledge in contract interpretation and administration



  • Ability to solve complex claim scenarios with minimal guidance  


  • Ability to manage multiple and changing priorities 


  • Claim/risk management skills and technical knowledge in contract interpretation and administration


  • Success in achieving Individual development goals, and influence others in achieving development goals


  • Demonstrated success at coaching others to elevate performance


  • Demonstrated leadership skills in other positions or a similar position


  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills


  • Excellent organizational and time management skills 


  • Strong written and communication skills demonstrated in previous work experience 


  • Specific experience with collaborative negotiations 


  • Proven skills in positive and effective interaction with challenging customers 


  • Experience in effectively meeting/exceeding individual professional expectations and team goals. 


  • Demonstrated analytical and math skills with the ability to complete complex pre-disability earnings calculations, partial disability calculations and salary continuation calculations. 


  • Ability to exercise sound judgment 


  • High level of flexibility to adapt to the needs of the organizations


  • Goal oriented with an ability to organize and analyze information


  • Strong critical thinking skills, communication, organization, and time management skills


  • Proven customer service skills


  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to the changing needs of an organization


  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams


  • Ability to travel onsite to group customer at least one to two times per year.

The salary range for this role is from $71,100.00 to $105,900.00. Specific pricing for the role may vary within the above range based on many factors including geographic location, candidate experience, and skills.
