Job Description:

The Clinical Research Coordinator Lab Tech/Phlebotomist (CRC I) will responsible for coordinating clinical research projects proficiently with supervision, to collect, process, store and ship research specimens proficiently. Capable of support data entry/ chart review with supervision and direction. Functions independently, and is able to identify situations where additional support is necessary. Is competent in and understands basic clinical research. Minimal assistance is able to access regulations governing the protection of human subjects- IRB, FDA, OHRP, GCP/ICH and HIPAA guidelines and apply regulations in practice. The CRC I will assure that the integrity and quality of the clinical research trial data is collected and maintained in accordance with all Meharry Medical College, IRB, and PCIR policies and standard operating procedures. Responds to inquiries on specific tasks on study projects, ensures support of compliance with protocols and overall objectives, and performs study-related procedures of clinical research under the supervision of the Associate Director and Medical Director.



Daily Operations



  • Sets up and assists in specific tasks related to conducting clinical investigations.

  • Assists in the day-to-day clinical research tasks as assigned by the principal investigator, co-investigator (s), and associate director of the CWHR.

  • Carefully records and documents all delegated aspects of care for patients in compliance with research project goals and objectives.

  • Serves as a resource for the data collected on research subjects and the research team.

  • Attends meetings with research team as required.

  • Performs patient blood draw care per protocol

  • Assures compliance with all institutional, government, and regulatory policies for Human Subject Protection in Clinical Research

  • Performs other related duties as assigned




Required Skills



  • Must possess a working knowledge of basic clinical research practice.


  • Must be proficient with personal computer.


  • Ability to utilize keen judgment in evaluating information.


  • Ability to numerically and accurately enter and calculate test results in an electronic database.


  • Ability to work in a stressful environment.


  • Must be team oriented





Required Education and Experience



  • Bachelor's degree in health sciences

  • Certifications from National Phlebotomy Association or certified Medical Assistant with at least two years' experience in a direct patient care role.

  • 1-2 years of laboratory experience is preferred
