Responsibilities

The Medical Planner is a key member of the Healthcare Team, providing outstanding healthcare and medical planning leadership. This position is responsible for master planning, programming and detailed design development of large, complex medical facilities. The successful candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to create patient-centric healing environments and to optimize healthcare delivery for our clients. It requires direct communication with diverse stakeholder groups and utilizes organizational, interpersonal, verbal and graphic communication skills.

  • Specialize in medical facility planning, programming, and facilitate medical equipment planning discussions.
  • Familiar with benchmarking and participation in lean operational planning.
  • Familiar with facility master plans for inpatient and ambulatory facilities.
  • Independently conduct planning/programming client meetings or other client presentations.
  • Conduct research, complete data analyses, and develop reports. Be responsible for technical coordination for specific aspects of project work and for consultants to the project.
  • Conduct analyses of long-term healthcare facility needs and develop solutions involving construction of new facilities and major rehabs of existing facilities.
  • Conduct analyses of space utilization, determine space requirements for expanding, and create solutions to meet evolving space needs.
  • Contribute to the success of project assignments, and achieve overall office goals.
  • Assist in securing Owner approvals throughout design process and document key decisions during project planning.
  • Establish and nurture client relationships, including responsibility for customer satisfaction.
  • Coordinate with various consultants for all aspects of the project, with particular focus on coordination specific to healthcare facilities.
  • Prepare functional and space programs for healthcare facilities. Conduct client and user group interviews for needs assessment and implement master planning and medical planning documentation.
  • Travel for client and user meetings is required.




  • 10+ years’ experience in the planning of hospitals and ambulatory care facilities.
  • Participated in and led user meetings.
  • Knowledge of technical aspects relating to healthcare.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Efficient in Revit, Bluebeam and other software used for design and production.
  • Experience in working in a collaborative environment
  • Understanding of clinical and LEAN process.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Medical Office Building experience is a plus.
  • Experience with VA or DoD healthcare facilities is preferred.
  • Experience in the planning of complex clinical and interventional spaces within a hospital, i.e. OR suites, Cath labs, Clinical labs and patient floors, is preferred.
  • Licensed Architect preferred.
