The Technical Accounting Manager plays a pivotal role, collaborating across various functions within the organization to oversee technical accounting operations. This person will be responsible for addressing intricate technical accounting challenges related to revenue, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and compliance matters. The role is tailored for detail-oriented professionals who are proactive in seeking innovative ways to drive impact.
Responsibilities:
Issue Resolution: Swiftly diagnose and resolve complex technical accounting issues, documenting accounting positions in memorandums for revenue recognition, M&A transactions, and other ad hoc scenarios.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with teams such as FP&A, tax, legal, research, product, and operations to provide accounting guidance on contracts, business initiatives, and new transactions.
Leadership and Mentorship: Lead and mentor accounting staff, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.
Stay Current: Keep abreast of new accounting pronouncements and lead the implementation of necessary changes in accounting policies and practices.
Compliance Management: Ensure company compliance with US and international financial regulations (e.g., sales tax, GST, payroll taxes, income tax).
External Relations: Act as a liaison to external auditors and tax preparers.
Supervision: Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general accounting departments to ensure adherence to US GAAP.
State Nexus Monitoring: Monitor state physical and economic nexus requirements and register as needed.
Tax Returns: Prepare, file, and reconcile sales and use tax returns.
M&A Support: Assist the M&A team with post-acquisition activities, including establishing opening balance sheets, valuations, and integrating accounting tech stack components.
Qualifications:
Experience: A minimum of 8 years of progressive accounting experience, with a preference for B2B software or startup exposure.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or Master's degree preferred.
Analytical Skills: Ability to critically analyze complex situations and apply appropriate accounting treatments.
Multi-Company Experience: Prior exposure to multi-company, multi-currency organizations.
Technical Expertise: Proven track record in accounting advisory consulting or industry-specific technical accounting roles.
ASC 606 Knowledge: Strong understanding of ASC 606 and practical application experience.
Software Proficiency: Familiarity with modern software and systems, particularly NetSuite.
Excel Mastery: Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
M&A Focus: Experience with ASC 805 evaluations in the context of mergers and acquisitions.
