Research Assistant I/II - (Neurology) - BRAINS Lab, full time nonexempt role.
RESEARCH ASSISTANT I/II POSITION SUMMARY: The Department of Neurology seeks a Research Assistant to conduct specific activities, under the direction of senior research staff, to support basic science research in the field of aging and neuro-vascular sciences. This position will work in a vibrant research community with international researchers and faculty, whose research focuses are on brain aging and neurodegeneration.
POSITION KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Conducts research activities, under general direction, according to research protocols. Research activities may include some or all of the following: research animal colony maintenance and husbandry, execution and completion of assigned experiments, data acquisition and record keeping, reporting results to the principal investigator (PI), assisting in manuscript preparation and presentations.
2. Works with PI to draft regulatory documents, including research animal, chemical, laser, and radiation protocols. Prior experience in developing a research protocol is highly desired.
3. Laboratory techniques including: administration of research materials in live experimental models, biological fluid collection, tissue dissection, DNA/RNA/protein preparation, PCR, ELISA, Western blotting, mammalian cell culture, immunohistochemical and immunocytochemical stains, two-photon microscopy, and animal behavioral testing. Prior experience in assisting clinical/ preclinical MR imaging is a plus.
4. Coordinates and Maintains adequate level of lab supplies to assure timely achievement of lab activities.
5. Maintains accurate and timely records to include study binders, notebooks, records, databases, etc. as needed by the research project and IRB compliance.
6. Monitors laboratory and/or other supplies to ensure sufficient inventory to support research projects. Ensures quality of reagents or other supplies.
7. Stays abreast of new and updated protocols for research department
8. As needed, coordinates the work of laboratory technicians, support staff and other assistants to ensure efficient, timely and high quality results. Answers questions or resolves problems regarding routine or more complex duties.
9. Complies with all governmental and University policies, rules, regulation and codes.
10. May participate in continuing education programs, workshops and seminars.
