POSITION TITLE: Sports/Events Coordinator
CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt
DEPARTMENT: Tamaya Wellness Center (TWC)
SUPERVISOR: Sports/Events Supervisor
GRADE: NE7

Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Facility Operations Manager, the Sports/Events Coordinator will manage, supervise, and coordinate special events and sports activities. This position will oversee sports/events staff and create schedules. This position is responsible for marketing and promotion of events and sports activities. Must be available to work night shifts and weekends. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Assists with public relations duties such as preparing and distributing flyers, press releases and brochures, etc. as needed. Reviews team rosters, league schedules, tournaments etc. as needed. Assists with preparation and administering of individual program or facility budgets as needed and appropriate, monitors expenditures for any and all events, activities, and requests. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with co-workers, the public, and other departments, and agencies. Assists in the development of new classes, new special events, the implementation of new activities and programs and coordinate with the recreation programs for facility usage. Assists the Adult Wellness Program group exercise classes as needed. Coordinates recreational activities to include off-site field trips. Coordinates and supervises staff on weeknights, weekends, and holidays as needed. Follows written and oral instructions. Communicates effectively, verbally and in writing. Provides leadership and oversight for various events and activities. Builds and maintains a consistent positive rapport with staff, the community, and all users of the Facility. Evaluates event and/or activity effectiveness and prepares reports as required. Maintains accurate books and records on all events and activities that take place, and all fees collected. Coordinates with department staff and volunteers to determine technical or other special requirements for any planned events and/or activities; determine resources available; coordinate the acquisition of any additional required resources as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Associates degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation services or a related field, or 2 years experience in community event and program management and coordination experience. Supervisory experience, preferred. Must have or be able to obtain certification in First Aid and CPR. Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation including a motor vehicle check. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico drivers license and be insurable under the Pueblos insurance.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Certifications:
Knowledge of principles and practices of scheduling events and activities. Knowledge of recreation and sports leagues and safety compliance. Knowledge of philosophy, methods, and techniques used in organized events and activities. Knowledge of traditional forms of government. Ability to supervise, direct and coordinate the work of lower-level staff. Ability to assist with allocated budget. Ability to communicate clearly and accurately, orally and in written format. Ability to prepare reports, and present facts and information. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, and to communicate and enforce policies. Ability to manage, organize, facilitate organizational responsiveness to complaints, problems, and concerns. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Tribal Officials, Tribal staff, managers, co-workers, and the public. Ability to exhibit confidence in judgement and decision making. Skills in event, activity and sports leadership. Skill in operating all Microsoft Office programs, with specific knowledge in spreadsheets (Excel) and databases (Access). Knowledge of the operation of various pieces of office equipment (copy machines, fax machines, phones, calculators, etc.). Certification in CPR and First Aid, or ability to become certified within 30 days. Knowledge of safety standards and practices. Knowledge of standard program evaluation methods and report writing procedures Ability to remain calm in difficult situations and respond quickly to emergencies. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information. Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to stand; sit; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to be outdoors for long periods of time, they are also required to walk; and reach with hands and arms. The employee occasionally is required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Work may require the use of computers with exposure to video display terminals, the need to work in front of a computer terminal for extended periods of time and some repetitive motion associated with data entry and the use of a computer mouse. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.

Work Environment:
Work is performed in a variety of settings from office to outdoor environments and may include exposure to inclement weather. Noise levels range from moderate to loud. Evening and/or weekend work may be required. There is frequent interaction with children, the public and employees.
