Starting pay is $28.44/hour (This rate is non-negotiable and there is a 6-month probationary period). In this position you have the potential of making up to $40.17/hour.

Role Summary


Civil Engineering Specialist -Drafting Track is an integral part of our Engineering Design Team, the candidate is responsible for creating detailed civil engineering drawings and city record drawings using computer-aided design (CAD) software. Will collaborate closely with design engineers and project managers to translate concepts and ideas into accurate 2D and 3D models for Capital Improvement Projects.


In this role, the candidate will be responsible for producing accurate and detailed technical drawings and designs utilizing computer-aided design (CAD) software. This role requires a meticulous attention to detail, proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software, and a solid understanding of general engineering principles and design standards.


The ideal candidate must be highly organized, able to work independently, and demonstrate a thorough understanding of CAD principles and design techniques.


Essential Duties:


Incumbent is responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:



  • Create accurate and detailed 2D drawings and 3D models based on project requirements, sketches, and specifications provided by engineers.

  • Work closely with project managers, design engineers, project teams, and other city staff to ensure Capital Improvement Projects meet technical and functional designs requirements.

  • Review drawings and models to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to design standards and specifications.

  • Assist in identifying design issues and propose solutions during the design and development phase.

  • Stay up to date with trends and advancements in CAD technology to improve efficiency and quality of designs.

  • Responsible for the detailed engineering & construction document preparation of as-built record documents for both Capital Improvement and private development projects.

  • Other job-related duties and responsibilities may be assigned.


Knowledge of: (position requirements at entry)


For Drafting Specialty Track 2


Drafting principles, practices, procedures, methods and instruments for the following:



  • AutoCAD drafting from design markups

  • AutoCAD drafting of as-builts

  • Create model and paper space layouts in AutoCAD

  • Create base sheets in AutoCAD

  • Records and data management associated with drafting

  • Computer and software applications used in drafting


Training and Experience (position requirements at entry)



  • High School Diploma / GED

  • Minimum 3 years progressive construction inspection or surveying or drafting experience

  • Must attend all Safety Training required by Supervisor or Regulatory agencies


Licensing Requirements (position requirements at entry)


Valid Driver’s License
