What you'll be contributing:




  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
  • Coordinates and presents classes promoting safe working activities, including First Aid/CPR and additional courses.
  • Serves as on-site safety presence during plant shutdowns and outages to ensure safe practices and company expectations are followed, sometimes requiring a shift or weekend work schedule.
  • Assists with planning and delivering annual MSHA refresher training, including classroom training and hands-on field safety exercises.
  • Works with site management and departments to ensure employee training courses and all required documentation are up to date in a neat, organized manner and records are readily retrievable, including topics of area inspections, hot work, mobile equipment, lockout/tag-out, etc.
  • Conducts field safety audits and walk-through inspections to ensure all employees work safely.
  • Collaborates formulates, and suggests work safety standards and procedures for risk prevention in hazardous materials exposure, accidents, fires, or other unsafe conditions.
  • Collaborates with site employees and Safety Manager to advise management on problem correction.
  • Assists the Safety Manager with implementing a Competency-Based Training system and continuous improvement thereafter to maintain compliance.
  • Conducts site induction/new hire onboarding and task training, including a site tour, UTV training, fire extinguisher safety, fall protection training, lockout/tag-out principles, PPE training, and additional safety training.
  • Conducts 30/60/90-day safety stay interviews with new employees to ensure understanding.
  • Conducts assessments to verify competency for new hires and new task training for existing employees.
  • Assists with training repository standardization and maintenance of records thereafter.
  • Maintains regulatory compliance and assists in developing solutions to regulatory challenges.
  • Acts as a Health & Safety department resource/mentor for all company employees, including site trainers, and participates in the new hire mentoring process.


  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor



To succeed in this position, you will need:




  • Knowledge and experience in mining, cement, construction, or heavy equipment industry required
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio)
  • Experience in training, work scheduling, and presentation
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Effective time management to organize and prioritize a heavy workload in a fast-paced, demanding environment
  • Willingness to cross-train in other functions within the Safety and Health Department
  • Willingness to work a flexible work schedule, including some nights and weekends
  • Knowledge in any of the following: MSHA/OSHA, State, and/or ATF regulations
  • Demonstrative ability to analyze and confidently present data in a manner that promotes ideas and opportunities to lead to improvement
  • High school graduation or equivalent is required
  • Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
  • Minimum 2 years experience Certified to instruct First Aid / CPR courses, or willingness to attain certification
  • Willingness to undertake other training or educational classes that further the safety effort, including Emergency Response
  • Multi-lingual (Spanish / English)
  • Willingness to learn, training will be provided
  • Display understanding of organizational dynamics, ability to effectively facilitate training and assessments
  • Domestic travel up to 10%



What to expect in a cement environment:



Work to be performed in a shop environment as well as outdoor exposure throughout the plant. Mild exposure to cement dust, heat, cold, and noise requires compliance with specified safety guidelines and procedures. Exposure to high elevations of up to 250 feet in height. Exposure to all weather conditions. Normal operation of mobile equipment may result in jarring and vibratory exposure.
