Senior Journeyman Plumber at University of Oklahoma

Job Description:

Join Facilities Management at the University of Oklahoma and be part of a team dedicated to meeting the University's ever-changing needs. Located within Facilities Management, the Plumbing shop is responsible for the repair, service, and installation of building water, gas, steam, air, and sewer lines and gas-operated equipment.


Job Duties:



  • Installs and services plumbing fixtures, and water and drain piping. Installs steam heating equipment while working with line voltage and low voltage control systems.

  • Reads and works from blueprints, drawings and control wiring diagrams.

  • Installs and services gas-fired appliances and related piping, such as steam and hot water boilers, forced air furnaces, water heaters, stack ovens, kitchen ranges, and fryolators.

  • Installs and services plumbing fixtures and water and drain piping according to established codes and practices.

  • Installs and services steam-heated equipment such as the related piping, heat exchangers, steam pressure cookers, kettles, sterilizers, heating coils and dishwashers.

  • Services and repairs water pumps, steam condensate and vacuum pumps, pressure regulators as they pertain to water, gas, steam and air, fire hydrants, building fire protection sprinkler systems and their controls, and water and gas meters.

  • Works with low voltage controls and low voltage as well as low and medium pressure steam.

  • Operates, maintains, and repairs irrigation systems including leaks in distribution lines, valves, and risers.

  • Repairs control lines and sprinkler heads. Maintains and repairs the master and satellite controllers. Operates and maintains the pumping station and associated water tanks.

  • Makes periodic inspections of the various irrigation system components to insure each is properly functional.

  • Ensures proper water treatment and flow is to proper specifications.

  • Assures proper application of potable and non-potable water and fertilizers to tees, greens, and fairways.

  • Schedules all controllers and provides a written schedule that will be submitted to designated person.

  • Applies chemicals on greens, repairs greens with seeds or plugs of new grass when needed. Sands and seeds tee and drop area divots. Grades and prepares soil base, laying sod and seeding greens, tees, and fairway.

  • Assures proper backfilling of any excavations that might be necessary in order to make system repairs.

  • Maintains an inventory of parts and supplies. Contacts outside vendors to locate needed material and prepares the appropriate order forms and sends to designated person.

  • May supervise staff and provide technical direction and training.

  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.

Required Education: Required: High School diploma or GED or Trade School Certificate, AND:



  • 18 months plumbing experience.


Skills:



  • Advanced knowledge of plumbing building codes

  • Advanced knowledge of plumbing methods and theories for repairs and installations

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Uses tools or equipment in a manner requiring some training or instruction

  • Ability to read and interpret routine written or printed materials

  • Basic math


Certifications:



  • Valid Oklahoma Driver's License in order to drive University vehicles or ability to obtain within 30 days from hire date

  • Must hold a current plumber journeyman's license with the State of Oklahoma


Working Conditions:



  • Physical: Ability to lift heavy objects in excess of 45 lbs. Regular exposure to physically demanding tasks such as digging, lifting, bending and stooping.

  • Environmental: Exposure to extreme temperature changes and handling dirty materials. Exposure to odors. Some overtime required, including nights, weekends, and holidays.  May be designated as an essential position during emergency closures.  May be required to remain on campus overnight during weather or other emergencies.
