Job Description Summary:
The OTS Field Technician will provide on-site field support in the installation and commissioning of SOLV Energy's SCADA systems and infrastructure.

Remote position with 80% travel required.

Remote position with 80% travel required, up to 2 weeks at a time at various project sites

Position Responsibilities and Duties:


  • Serve as primary point of contract on project sites for remote OTS Project Managers and Engineers

  • Technical lead for troubleshooting and diagnostics including but not limited to; plant controls, data acquisition, field level devices, and network related issues.

  • Support DAS (data acquisition system) installations and retrofits on existing PV systems on an as needed basis.

  • Able to transition between various jobs efficiently

  • Communicate effectively with teammates and onsite teams.

  • Provide onsite presence to support installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of SCADA systems and infrastructure on Utility Scale Solar and BESS projects throughout the United States.

  • Coordinate with project site teams, vendors, and SOLV OTS staff to ensure timely installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of SCADA systems and infrastructure.

  • Coordinate with customers, vendors, and field technicians for on-site and/or remote troubleshooting and diagnostics.

  • Identify appropriate escalation path for problems that require SOLV OTS engineering support

  • Participate in project calls with site teams, project owners, and SOLV OTS teams to provide updates on field progress, issues, and status for SCADA systems.

  • Configure hardware and software components after installation as needed.

  • Utilize software based diagnostic tools to aid in troubleshooting of SCADA systems and communication of field devices.

  • Develop and maintain support knowledge base for SCADA and infrastructure related troubleshooting and diagnostics.

  • Compare project drawings to site conditions to ensure installation is correct.

  • Travel for this position is required. Estimated to be 80% of job duties will be onsite.

  • Contribute to the design and requirements for SCADA solutions by providing voice of customer feedback.

  • Ensure a safe working environment through strict adherence to and enforcement of company and industry safety standards .

Minimum Skills or Experience Required:

  • Ability to travel and work according to a changing schedule.

  • Technical or engineering degree in a related field, or verifiable applicable field experience.

  • General knowledge of SCADA system design, setup, commissioning and support - Preferred but not required

  • Understanding of PV Solar Plant AC and DC electrical design and operation fundamentals - Preferred but not required

  • Understanding of industrial automation protocols (Modbus RTU/TCP, DNP3, OPC UA and DA) - Preferred but not required

  • Experience with basic PV solar monitoring functions and designs.

  • Understanding diagrams and schematics including but not limited to, power system, networking and control, electrical, mechanical and civil layouts - Preferred but not required

  • Testing and troubleshooting issues with the fiber networks - Preferred but not required

  • Customer escalation and conflict resolution skills desirable.

  • Excellent communications skills

  • Ability to problem-solve

  • Excellent time management skills


Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:

  • Occasional exposure to weather, harsh outdoor environment, vibration, dust and fumes, electric shock, radiation, toxic/caustic chemicals

  • Occasional climbing and carrying, proximity to moving mechanical parts, working in high, exposed, or difficult to access places

  • The noise intensity level may be high

  • Working near medium and high voltage
