General Summary
Layne is seeking a qualified Geotechnical Driller responsible for operating a hollow stem auger and rotary drill for geotechnical sampling (split spoon, Shelby tubes, etc.), installation of monitoring water wells, extraction wells, water sampling, sediment sampling, pump tests, and well abandonments.
Essential Job Accountabilities
Responsible for loading and mobilizing equipment to project site
Responsible for leading drilling operations and instrumentation and monitoring well installation.
Collect soil and rock samples and log field data for geotechnical testing.
Perform basic site reconnaissance.
Drive a medium-duty truck and trailer.
Learn to inspect and how to maintain equipment.
Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects.
Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to project management team.
Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
Education
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent years of experience
Certification
Mud School certification preferred
State Drillers License preferred
HSA and Coring experience required
Ability to travel away from home for up to 2 weeks at a time
Must possess or be able to attain a Class A CDL
Work Experience
Prefer 3 to 5 years of experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Mechanical/Welding Aptitude
Ability to operate all drilling associated equipment (backhoe, forklift, etc.)
Ability to follow instructions and implement standard operating procedures
Ability to direct self and 1 to 2 others
Good oral and written communication skills
Willingness to travel and work outdoors

Base Hourly Wage Range:
Hourly: $27.00 $35.00 Pay may vary based upon relevant experience, skills, location, and education among other factors. Collective Bargaining Agreements will govern as applicable.
