Open Date:

Description:

The Department of Clinical Studies-New Bolton Center at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a faculty position in the Section of Field Service. This position is at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Academic Clinician track and is expected to enhance the clinical and teaching missions of the School. The position is equine-focused, and the ideal candidate would possess an interest in sports medicine or reproduction, as well as preventative care. The successful candidate will join our collaborative team of five faculty members, one resident, two technicians, and office staff, providing high-quality elective and emergency ambulatory services to a broad base of equine clients, including performance horse facilities, individual horse owners, and small breeding farms. New Bolton Center's Equine Field Service offers a wide variety of clinical services, including lameness and poor performance evaluations, preventative medicine and dentistry, upper airway endoscopy and gastroscopy, breeding management and foal care, and complementary medicine, including acupuncture and chiropractic therapy. Our Equine Field Service is supported by a large referral hospital with access to numerous Board-certified specialists. Clinical rounds, including morbidity and mortality rounds, orthopedic rounds, grand rounds, and ethics rounds, provide opportunities for collaborative case discussions. Onsite clinical laboratory, microbiology, toxicology, and pathology services are also available.

The successful applicant will provide ambulatory clinical service to equine patients and will rotate with the other Equine Field Service clinicians in the emergency schedule (a separate Food Animal Field Service manages routine and emergency food animal calls.) Teaching veterinary students in both a didactic and a clinical setting is an important aspect of the position, as is clinical training of equine-focused interns and residents. Faculty members in the Academic Clinician track are expected to demonstrate excellence in clinical practice and innovation in the delivery of care. While there is no requirement for research productivity, the successful candidate is encouraged to collaborate with and strengthen research programs of faculty in the Section of Field Service and other sections within the Department of Clinical Studies-New Bolton Center.
