  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field, from an accredited institution.

  • A minimum of 5 years experience in metallurgy, and forging is required.

  • Experience with Aerospace forging using titanium and/or nickel based super alloys and strong working knowledge of Quality systems and specifications is preferred.

  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee. LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Ability to speak Spanish a plus.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Proficient with ERP systems

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

American Society of Metals (ASM) registration.

Must meet the requirements pertaining to Vision Acuity Testing under the Quality Assurance Manual.

Up to $110,000 DOE

Howmet Aerospace is seeking a Metallurgist to contribute toward the growth and development of the engineering/metallurgical department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities include the following:


  • Primary technical contact for applicable customers.

  • Develop, modify, improve, and troubleshoot the processes associated with the production of seamless rolled rings and other open-die forgings.

  • Metallurgical failure analysis and disposition for applicable customers, including generation of non-dimensional concessions for customer review.

  • Own new part introduction (NPI) process for applicable customers, including final review of qualification packages prior to customer review.

  • Perform various Metallurgy Department projects including planning, organizing data collection, and presentation.

  • Initiate and control cost reduction projects to achieve targets established by Supervisor.

  • Release hardware for production utilizing processes that are designed to meet or exceed customer technical (metallurgical and quality) requirements as specified on purchase orders, blueprints, specifications or other related documents.

  • Review of new and revised technical (material, process, quality, etc) specifications, as necessary.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
