Job Description



This position is responsible for all operational activities and P&L accountability across the facility, as well as inventory accountability and exposure to risk and loss for an automated or large distribution center. Responsible for providing the highest possible service to the market customer base, and providing a work environment conducive to superior productivity, safety, quality, and morale. The Director of Operations is actively engaged in long term strategic planning for the distribution center.



Employee Management



  • Ensure high quality employee attraction, engagement, and development at all levels.


  • Build bench strength through modeling ICARE/ILEAD and development of a high-performing culture. Work with regional management on succession planning.


  • Effectively manage all people issues including, but not limited to, labor, turnover, generational, and diversity and inclusion.


  • Provide leadership and support for on-going training initiatives for management and employees.


  • Develop a strong team of DC leaders and provide coaching and appropriate development opportunities for direct reports.


  • Direct staff to provide a work environment that fosters creativity, productivity, collaboration, and accountability.


  • Maintain an engaged work environment by having a strong and friendly presence both on the floor and in the office. This role will spend several days per month actually supporting teams in receiving product from our regional HUB and will need to be comfortable and able to successfully support material handler teams.


  • Act as an advocate for the facility's management team to ensure swift resolution to both software and hardware problems.





General Management and Operations



  • Collaborate with both regional management and local management to develop and align strategic initiatives to implement locally.


  • Actively oversee DC operations and management by giving work direction, resolving problems, setting deadlines to ensure timely completion of work.


  • Develop the vision for the facility, while tracking current processes and regularly assessing if best practices are in place.





Financial Ownership



  • Utilize financial acumen and knowledge, especially in making business decisions.


  • Manage the budget for the building.


  • Monitor and analyze costs and assist the management team in hitting their goals.


  • Direct local operations to ensure building's performance is within budget and expense plans





Cross-Function Partnerships



  • Collaborate with stakeholders from HR, Engineering, Six Sigma, Finance, and more to ensure operations are identifying, meeting, and exceeding desired output and best practices.


  • Assist the Sales and Buying Center teams to ensure a profitable business and maintain superior customer service for existing customers.


  • Coordinate with Transportation team and Contractors.


  • Facilitate the relationship between the Inventory team and Operations team, to guarantee the DC can meet customer needs.


  • Strategize with leaders across the network to stay ahead of changing customer needs, industry advances, and labor planning concerns.


  • Facilitate success within the building by monitoring, preventing and solving any concerns outside of the distribution center.





Compliance and Safety



  • Oversee compliance with federal, state, local, and company policies and safety regulations.


  • Assist the management team in diagnosing any safety concerns and creating ideal solutions.


  • Ensure the building is always prepared for either an internal or external audit.





Minimum Requirement



Degree or equivalent experience. Typically requires 12+ years of professional experience and 4+ years of management experience



Critical Skills



  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage managers and lead teams in a distribution center setting.


  • Strong understanding of the tactical aspects of distribution operations, including inventory management, order fulfillment, and logistics.


  • Ability to think strategically and develop long-term plans to optimize distribution center operations, improve efficiency, and drive business growth.


  • Proven experience in implementing and managing organizational changes within a distribution center, including process improvements, technology implementations, and operational transformations.


  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to effectively manage operations across a 24-hour work day within the distribution center.


  • Proficiency in warehouse management systems (WMS), with a deep understanding of best practices for optimizing space utilization, inventory accuracy, and order processing.





Additional Knowledge & Skills



  • The ideal candidate for the position will understand pharmaceutical supply chain operations from beginning to end.


  • This individual will be part of a cross functional team that collaborates to improve operational metrics, decrease expenses, manage inventory risk, improved the customer experience, drive employee engagement, mitigate security risk and improve safety.


  • Additionally, strong written and verbal communication skills are needed to be successful in the position

Our Base Pay Range for this position



$111,200 - $185,300
