Job Description:

Job Summary:

Inspect, repair, modify, paint, clean and maintain all areas of facility and grounds following all Good Manufacturing Practices and food safety requirement to assure production of safe, quality products and a clean and safe environment for plant operation. Assist with production equipment maintenance, preventative maintenance, parts ordering and troubleshooting as required.

Job Duties:

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:


  • Effectively and safely operates standard maintenance tools such as power tools, basic hand tools and basic electrical test equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance up to Semi-Annual PM's.
  • Read and understand mechanical and electrical schematics at 50%.
  • Complete some minor troubleshooting of problems related to our systems.
  • Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Follow prescribed safety rules and regulation as well as other departmental policies and procedures. Help to develop proper safety techniques.
  • Detect, document, report and repair improper machine operation and faulty equipment.
  • Follow and perform emergency procedures regarding power failures.
  • Diversify maintenance skills to allow for assignments in any work areas as required
  • Understand and certify in our LOTO program.
  • Effectively inform through verbal and written pass-downs your daily issues and actions.
  • Perform preventative maintenance up to and including Annual PM's.
  • Set up preventative maintenance paperwork for new machinery in designated areas.
  • Read and understand mechanical and electrical schematics without issue.
  • Provide leadership, training and direction when necessary to other maintenance technicians or machine operators.
  • Ability to determine the root cause for troubleshooting systems.
  • Provide some support to engineering in gathering requested information and beta testing some engineering projects.
  • Comfortable with speaking to a machine service engineer to gather information, report unusual issues and problems for resolution.
  • Provide leadership, training and direction when necessary to other maintenance technicians or machine operators
  • Detect, document, report and resolve complex equipment issues resulting from defective materials and unusual conditions.
  • Read and understand mechanical and electrical schematics and design improvements to the systems with new schematics.
  • Provide expert ability in determining root cause for troubleshooting systems.
  • Support engineering in their projects by providing expert resource support.
  • Write up new PM procedures and administer these through our document control.

Required Competencies & Knowledge:

Knowledge of:


  • Hearthside Food Solutions' products and production processes.
  • Standard practices in maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical components.
  • Extensive knowledge of hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of programmable controllers and their software's.

Skill in:

  • Problem solving using defined methodologies.
  • Organization and time management.
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic control systems.
  • HVAC and refrigerant systems.
  • PLC and DC control wiring.

Ability to:

  • Open, understand and edit PLC programs.
  • Pneumatic, hydraulic system repairs.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and written.
  • Ensure collaborative relationships with HFS staff.
  • Issue and receive instructions using known guidelines.
  • Lead 'best in class' behaviors with focus on safety, quality, and policies

Proficiency in :


  • MS Office Suite, preferred
  • PM system tracking

Work Environment:

  • Work is primarily done in a manufacturing production floor.
  • Frequent production environment exposure which includes noise, dust, moving machinery, forklifts, and fluctuations in temperature.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting at a workstation for short periods of time.
  • Frequent line calls throughout the building requiring immediate response.
  • Stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders on a frequent basis.
  • Must be able to lift 20 pounds on an infrequent basis.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • High school diploma.
  • Recommend associates degree in a related field or similar.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience as a maintenance tech.
