Your Impact

Road & Track seeks an Associate Director to edit, assign, and write smart automotive stories, across platforms, digital and print. The ideal candidate is deeply engaged in the automotive news cycle, has a wealth of sources and relationships in the automotive industry, and is an experienced editor who knows how to engage digital audiences. This person must be strategic about story performance and what ideas will grab reader most. This position reports to the digital director.

Job Responsibilities: 


  • Assign and edit news stories, explainers, and interviews across all subjects relevant to the brand’s audience

  • Constantly be on top of the news cycle and deeply motivated to get ahead of it

  • Elevate Road & Track’s news, and yearn to break news as much as report it

  • Collaborate with SEO team to ideate and produce content.

  • Optimize stories for both search and social to maximize their reach

  • Analyze the performance of news stories and strategize future coverage accordingly

Qualifications:


  • 6 to 8 years of post-grad experience writing and editing news at a consumer editorial digital brand

  • Healthy obsession with news—if you’re not keeping up with it all day every day, this is not the job for you

  • Strong (and speedy) editing skills, and an understanding of brand voice

  • Exceptional attention to detail and grammar skills

  • SEO-savvy and an eye for analyzing traffic trends and relevant data

  • Ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced newsroom

  • A knack for collaboration and strong communication skills

  • Able to work nights and weekends as needed

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or other relevant area

The base salary for this role is between $98,000 and $117,000. The actual base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as: transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.

This is a position covered under the Writers Guild of America, East, Collective Bargaining Agreement.
