Duties & Responsibilities:

As Sustainability Intern at VIAVI, you will be assisting with the Environmental Social Governance (ESG) Working Group and Legal Department by working cross-functionally across domestic and international operations, functional areas and supply chains to track, monitor, and analyze solutions on energy, water, carbon, and packaging.

• Location – Can be remote/hybrid (near San Jose area)


• Hours – 20 hours per week (will work with manager to determine schedule that works for both)

Responsibilities may include:

• Provide support to the legal team on a variety of routine and complex legal matters.


• Conducting sustainability research and analysis, to include frameworks such as SASB, GHG Protocol and CDP.


• Work cross-functionally with various business units on efforts to reduce VIAVI’s global carbon footprint.


• Play a crucial role in assessing and improving the ESG impact of VIAVI. 


• Assist in driving sustainability performance and help promote responsible business practices.


• Collect, interpret, and analyze data on energy consumption, waste management, carbon emissions, and other sustainability metrics.


• Track progress towards VIAVI’s sustainability goals while aligning such progress with enterprise-wide goals.


• Identify areas for improvement in carbon reduction and operational efficiency.


• Participate in cross-functional working group working on calculation of Scope 3 emissions.


• Conduct research on best practices, regulatory requirements, and emerging trends in sustainability.


• Stay updated on local and international regulations related to sustainability and compliance.


• Maintaining legal files and databases


• Performing project management and administrative tasks, such as scheduling working group meetings, preparing materials and agenda.


• Support the continuous improvement of standard form agreements and legal processes.

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in or currently working towards degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Environmental Health & Safety, or related field preferred.


• Minimum 1-2 years of experience preferred


• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail


• Intellectually curious

• “Can-do” attitude, pro-active, and resourceful


• Able to multi-task


• Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office software products, including Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams, SharePoint, and PowerPoint
