Job Summary
The Sr. Director of Data provides vision and strategy for all data management activities. This position acts as the champion of data management, governance and quality for the organization. This position establishes data policies, standards, organization, and enforcement of information management concepts. This position oversees all data management and integration initiatives across the enterprise. This position is also accountable for reports on data metrics and budgeting for data initiatives.

The role reports directly to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and interacts with the CIO's direct reports to provide data services to the lines of business. This role also works closely with the business intelligence groups to make data available to fulfill business line analytics and reporting requirements.

The role directly oversees four main building blocks of the data management environment:
•\tData Warehouse Operations - Maintain and enhance the Data Warehouse to ensure availability and reliability of the platform for business consumption of reporting, analytics, and data
•\tData Warehouse Project Management and Delivery - Manage initiatives, projects, and enhancements to integrate IT systems to the Data Warehouse
•\tData Governance - Collaborate with the data governance team. Participate in the Data Governance Committee. Create and maintain tools that support governance of critical data elements to ensure data quality and regulatory compliance
•\tData Architecture - Create and maintain a modern architecture to ensure that data is available in a reliable, secure, efficient, and accessible way

Job Responsibilities:


  • Create a vision, strategy and plan for data management that furthers enterprise objectives. Communicate the vision to executive leadership, business managers and corporate leaders. Support the vision with projected outcomes and impacts to business strategies. Ensure the entire data management team understands and executes the strategy.

  • Ensure sound operational performance of the data warehouse. Manage service levels and ensure reliability and availability of the platform. Make recommendations and enhancements to improve platform efficiency.

  • Oversee the execution of data initiatives that influence the objectives of the company. Develop presentations and communication plans to update stakeholders on the status of the initiatives and ensure appropriate priority and resources are assigned to deliver the initiatives on schedule, budget, and with quality.

  • Oversee the data governance process to ensure sound data quality and regulatory compliance. Participate in routine audits and regulatory exams. Advise on and ensure adherence to data governance and management policies.

  • Oversee the establishment of a business intelligence architecture and a collection of integrated business support application and databases, providing the business community easy access to business data. Build relationships with external experts and other advanced IT organizations to maintain knowledge of technology advancements and trends.

  • Develop and manage data management talent. Ensure appropriate staffing decisions for contract, offshore, and employee resource types to balance the cost, delivery, and ongoing support of the data management platforms.

  • Staff member is expected to consistently adhere to regulatory and compliance policies and standards linked to their job as listed. Staff member will not repeatedly act in a manner signifying intentional or willful noncompliance, nor exhibit gross negligence or a general disregard for compliance and regulatory standards. Staff member must ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. Staff member must complete all required compliance training on a timely basis. Staff member will maintain knowledge of and adhere to Flagstar's internal compliance policies and procedures. Staff member must take responsibility to keep up to date with changing regulations and policies.

Job Requirements :


  • Bachelor's Degree in MIS, Computer Science, or Business Administration required.

  • Master's degree in Data Analytics, Business Administration, or Information Technology preferred.

  • Ten years of experience in leading new development projects in an information technology organization, particularly data management projects.

  • Eight years of experience managing multi levels teams; including senior management.

  • Five years of experience in each of two different data management fields (data analytics, data governance, data quality, data integration, data warehouse, big data, meta or master data management).

  • Three years of experience in financial services and/or banking.

  • Solid understanding of analytics performance management.

  • Ability to drive business and technical leadership.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Experience in analytical, OLAP, data warehousing, master data management, big data, data integrations, data modeling tools, and cloud data architectures.

  • Superior ability to effectively communicate and manage the expectations of others.

  • Ability to think strategically.

  • Ability to lead, recruit and retain data management talent.

  • Ability to define metrics for data management initiatives that align with business goals.

  • Basic budgeting skills.
