Continuous Improvement / Lean Engineer at EFP

Job Description:

Position Summary:

EFP's Continuous Improvement team is focused on manufacturing and business operational support through lean transformation. The CI/Lean Engineer will be responsible for understanding the current process state, identifying efficiency and / or improvement opportunities and leading subsequent cross-functional team members to drive process improvements utilizing Lean strategies.

Basic Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field of study (i.e., engineering, business) or equivalent combined education and experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of practical hands-on experience leading a combination of functions: continuous improvement and lean activities, kaizen events, operations supervision/management, or manufacturing engineering.
  • Proven knowledge, execution and implementation of lean methods for problem solving or other continuous improvement methodologies that drive business results.
  • Experience developing various process documentation (WI, SOP, Process Flow Diagrams, Etc.).
  • Must have strong analytical skills and be process oriented with a deep desire to drive improvement, behave with initiative and be self-motivated to exceed expectations.
  • Demonstrate effective leadership and project management skills, showing the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Able to drive change, making continuous improvement a way of life while completing project level assignments with little direction.
  • Critical thinker that makes timely decisions with well-developed judgment, considering risk and alternatives along with other key factors.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and the ability to exercise influence without authority.
  • Express oneself effectively at all levels of the organization both orally and in written form.
  • Communicate plans and activities that drive strategic employee involvement through active listening.
  • Ability to lead, train and mentor employees at all levels of the organization in the application of Lean methodologies.
  • Collaborate with plant and corporate leadership, customers, suppliers, and production floor personnel to identify and facilitate projects to improve key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite Applications (Word, Excel, & PowerPoint).

Desired Qualifications:

  • Lean or Six Sigma certified
  • Trained in Lean Principles ( Value Stream Mapping, Visual Management, SMED, A3 problem solving, TPM, Kanban, Poke Yoke, Standard Work, Kaizen, 5S, etc.)
  • General knowledge of quality management and supply chain systems
  • Basic knowledge of ERP / MRP, SPC, Microsoft Access and Minitab

Travel Requirement:

Up to 50% overnight travel. The position operates in a multiple site manufacturing environment and requires temporary duties away from the assigned work location, including frequent overnight travel. Independent travel by car or airplane is necessary for effective job performance.
