Job Summary


Performs experiments, under the direct supervision of the PI or senior staff scientist, using a variety of animal-based and cell-based systems to address molecular and immunology questions; Analyzes, interprets, and summarizes data from such experiments. Through learning, gradually masters new experimental techniques as needed to attain research goals. Improves and/or develops new experimental protocols and maintains a protocol database.



Responsibilities


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:










Performs and clearly documents experimental procedures and results under the supervision of the PI and other staff scientists in compliance with the scientific standard to ensure integrity and reproducibility:






Performs experiments following established protocols under limited supervision of the PI and/or senior staff scientist.
Learns and masters new immunology and molecular biology techniques, including but not limited to high dimensional flow cytometry analysis, histology and immunohistochemistry staining, and microscopic image acquisition and analysis.
Discusses with the PI/senior staff scientist or collaborators regarding data analysis, interpretations, and summaries of experimental results.
Troubleshoots technical issues associated with experimental protocols, generates and/or modifies experimental laboratory protocols and maintains a protocol database.
Employs viral vector-based gene delivery systems or CRISPR/cas9-based gene knockdown approach in tissue culture and experimental animals to study the function of specific genes via analyzing the alterations in expression at the levels of protein and RNA.






Facilitates the PI with the laboratory management and administrative duties:






Assists the PI with the new lab member orientation, instructions, or basic laboratory procedures.
Manages the procurement of chemicals, supplies, equipment, animals, and biological material.
Maintains a database of purchased materials and current laboratory inventories.
Manages and maintains the biosafety, chemical safety, and IACUC guidelines and protocols to ensure compliance with AU policy.






Performs all other job-related duties as assigned.



Required Qualifications


Master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in research, basic science or clinical laboratory particularly clinical trial research.



OR



Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' research and/or clinical experience



Preferred Qualifications


MS. Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or life science. Previous research experience in immunology and/or molecular biology is desired.



Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities


Excellent customer service, interpersonal, multi-tasking, organizational and verbal/written communication skills;


Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) and other computer software/databases.


Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines despite often interruptions, maintain confidentiality, keep accurate records and make independent decisions. Detail-oriented.



Shift/Salary/Benefits


Shift: Days; Monday-Friday (work outside of the normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position)






Pay Grade: R14






Salary Minimum: $36,197 - Midpoint: $50,675






Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
