Summary of Position


Under general direction, provides high level analysis for business or clinical initiatives and programs to assess quality, service and performance and produce decision support information. Leads analysis of proposed new clinical program initiatives to assess financial and operational viability. Serves as project leader for complex data analysis projects that can be multi-disciplinary or interdepartmental. Provides guidance in data analysis and interpretation. May direct the work of lower-level analysts. Exercises considerable discretion and independent judgement. Typically reports to manager or director.


Essential Functions


* Initiates, oversees, directs and/or coordinates complex data analysis projects, for single or multiple departments. Determines project parameters, guidelines, and structure. Generates documents and/or presentations summarizing and providing in-depth analysis of these projects.


* Develops and produces operational and financial performance reports. Analyzes report data to identify and present areas of potential performance improvement.


- Develops advanced knowledge of Organizational financial and operations information systems. Produces


ad-hoc reports from Organization information systems in response to specific data needs or external regulatory


agency requests.


- Works closely with operating Directors and Managers to support the analytical review of their operating units.


- Ensures the integrity and accuracy of the data. Identifies any discrepancies in the data and if data is not being captured correctly, works with the appropriate members of IT or Business Systems Analysts to resolve the issue, and ensure that the data is accurate, and the data integrity is maintained.


* Under very general specifications or in typically self-initiated projects, monitors, analyzes and evaluates complex organizational (clinical or non-clinical) data with statistical tools to identify variances, trends, and problem areas. Such analyses are used to support decisions regarding the organization's business/clinical practices by offering high level insight which can suggest to management ways to improve operational performance via the generation of cost savings, increasing revenue, improving patient satisfaction/safety, improving the quality of patient care, etc. May recommend changes to improve operational performance.


* Under very general specifications or in typically self-initiated projects, models proposed changes to the business/clinical practices and provides a reasonable estimate of the financial and/or operational impact of proposed changes. Uses this modeling to forecast future performance.


* Interacts and consults with the appropriate internal and external parties to ensure an understanding of factors that affect the business data and possible sources of variation. Acts as an independent consultant, providing guidance in data analysis to members of other departments and/or senior management.


* Provides direction and training on task/project management to peers and others. May serve as a high-level resource and/or supervisor to less experienced analysts by providing guidance, training, and assigning and reviewing work.


* May assist in the development of the operating and capital budgets of the department. May provide input to manager for recruiting, hiring, dismissal, performance reviews and assist the manager in the development of policy and operational procedures.


* Performs all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, local and company policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements


Education: bachelor's degree (master's degree preferred) ideally in Business Administration or Healthcare


Skills and Experience: Five to seven years' experience in positions (preferably in healthcare) that require analytical and technical skills in quantitative areas; must have strong analytical root cause analysis skills. Knowledge and understanding of statistics and modeling and any relevant clinical/business practices. Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with all levels of personnel in discussions and explanations of complex data. Strong communications skills, including effective oral presentation skills and excellent writing skills. Demonstrated ability to execute complex analytic projects. Proficiency with other business-related software applications (e.g., MS Word, Access, Excel, SQL and other Data Analyst tools, etc.)
