The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for an open clinical track faculty position in the Department of Veterinary Preventive Medicine for a position in the Marysville Large Animal Field Services Practice.

Position Overview

The successful applicant will join four other faculty members at the OSU Large Animal Services ambulatory clinic located in Marysville, Ohio and will be expected to provide exceptional patient care and excellent client service to a range of large animal clients including dairy, beef, small ruminant, and equine in a clinical teaching setting.


The Marysville clinic is a full-service veterinary teaching practice providing individual animal, herd-based and emergency services for food and fiber animals and horses. The Marysville ambulatory service has over 5,000 active clients yielding more than 7,000 farm calls each year. The practice is housed in a 10,000 square foot state-of-the-art building. Marysville is located approximately 30 miles northwest of the Columbus campus. The Marysville large animal ambulatory clinical rotation is a required core learning experience for all 4th year veterinary students at OSU and is regularly rated as a top rotation by the students.

Clinical-track candidates will typically have 85-95% time commitment on clinics, including patient management, client service, clinical teaching of students, and advanced training of interns and residents. The candidate will have additional commitments to didactic and laboratory teaching for students in the professional veterinary program. Sponsored research is not required for clinical-track faculty, but clinical research, publications, or other scholarly activities to advance clinical veterinary medicine are encouraged. Faculty are also expected to be involved in professional and community outreach, continuing education, committee service, and curriculum development.

Performance Objectives

TEACHING DUTIES

• The candidate will be responsible for clinical, didactic, and laboratory teaching of fourth year DVM students, residents, and interns in the Large Animal Field Services Practice. This teaching is as a part of the ambulatory and clinic services for the clientele and patients of the Marysville Large Animal Field Services clinic.


• A smaller portion of the candidates time will be dedicated to didactic and/or laboratory teaching in the pre-clinical veterinary curriculum.

CLINICAL SERVICE AND OUTREACH DUTIES

• The candidate will perform all aspects of patient care associated with a busy primary-care large animal veterinary practice including patient management, client care, consulting with colleagues, medical record keeping, professional development, and participation in public relations activities.


• The candidate will work to grow the large animal clientele through successful acquisition and retention of new and existing clients within the practice geographical service area.

SCHOLARLY DUTIES

• Scheduled off-clinic time will be available for scholarly activities, including writing for publications, presentations, and other activities.


• Extramurally funded research is not required for clinical track faculty, however, participation in collaborative field-oriented research projects relevant to the health, welfare and productivity of the practice clientele and the support of resident and graduate student projects is strongly encouraged.

Education and Experience Requirements

Required
:

• DVM or equivalent.


• Level 2 USDA Accreditation - or eligibility for accreditation.


• At least one year of clinical large animal veterinary practice, large animal internship, or large animal residency.


• The strong communications skills necessary for successful client management and teaching of veterinary students.


• Experience applying veterinary skills to a diverse set of large animal patients, including, but not limited to cattle, small ruminants, and horses.

Desired:

• Excellence in patient management and service to large animal clientele.


• Evidence of supporting a culture of collegiality, professional citizenship, and collaboration


• Experience in the clinical training of veterinary students.


• Experience in the preclinical classroom and laboratory teaching of veterinary students.


• Experience in the training of house officers and/or graduate students.


• Evidence of mentoring of professional students, graduate students, and/or house officers.


• Board-certification or board-eligibility for ACVPM, ABVP, ACT, or a related certification.


• Graduate training in a related field.


• Evidence of collaboration and/or PI on research.


• Scholarly track-record consistent with rank.
