Job Description:

Join our team as a Parole Officer and make a direct impact on the citizens of Nebraska by supporting the Nebraska Board of Parole and Division of Parole Supervision's mission to serve and protect the public. The Board will strive to make informed and appropriate parole decisions by giving due consideration to and utilizing the resources of the Division of Parole Supervision, including innovative case management, for the successful re-entry of clients back into the community to become productive and responsible citizens. As a Parole Officer, you will provide supervision of clients on parole. Daily travel around the Lincoln and surrounding communities will be required as caseload dictates. Initial training may be held at the Lincoln Regional Office 421 South 9th Street, Suite 220, Lincoln, NE.



Job duties



Provide supervision to a caseload of parolees, furlough participants, and adult sex offenders on lifetime supervision. Research case files to assist in determination of status and conditions of supervision. Conduct validated risk assessments, placement investigations, and home visits. Counsel and assist offenders in adjusting to the community. Develop offender case plans based on criminogenic needs and conduct cognitive classes for parolees. Utilize various electronic monitoring modes. Collaborate with employers, institutional staff, area law enforcement, mental health boards, county attorneys, and treatment providers regarding behavior and treatment of offenders. Conduct violation investigations, searches, drug testing, and arrests. Testify in court and at the Parole Board hearings. Prepare reports and maintain case files. Cover an assigned territory. Duties could include preparing inmates for reentry, processing/coordinating release paperwork. Facilitate cognitive behavioral groups. And coordinate supervision outside of office hours. Travel will be required. Other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification.



Requirements/Qualifications



MINIMUM: Bachelor's degree in corrections, criminal justice, sociology, psychology, social work, counseling, public administration or a related field.


PREFERRED: Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences.


OTHER: Regular and reliable attendance is required. This position requires travel. As such, the incumbent must be able to present a valid driver's license or another form of reliable transportation.


WORK SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday 8:00-4:30 some late nights and weekends will be required



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



Ability to communicate effectively with offenders, criminal justice agencies, and community resource agencies. Must be self-motivated and organized and be able to work independently. Experience with Word, Excel, and the internet.
