The Laboratory Assistant utilizes technology to perform job duties, documentation and communication. The Lab Assistant manages specimens, requisitions, order entry, and timing-in specimens. The assistant processes specimens and prepares aliquots, manages laboratory reports and maintains supply inventory. This position recognizes and investigates problems and engages in courteous communication that supports business operations.
Essential Job Functions:
Utilizes technology effectively to perform accurate data entry/retrieval, documentation, and communication.
Assures accurate specimen labeling as applicable.
Receives specimen and verifies accurate specimen and requisition labeling. Manages patient and specimen encounters, order entry, accessioning, timing-in, etc. Processes blood and body fluid specimen and prepares, distributes, and stores specimen aliquots. Manages laboratory reports.
Prepares and maintains adequate supply and stock inventory.
Initiates, completes, and documents quality assurance and maintenance processes.
Recognizes problems, investigates and takes corrective action, documents problem and response, and notifies supervisor in a timely manner.
Engages in courteous communication that supports business operations through verbal, written, and other appropriate means.
Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
